E93 Owners! Squeaky Top????

I had my hinges lubed a week ago and I made this video for my SA to hear how little if anything it did. There is soooo much flex all the time that all i hear is constant squeaking and occasional vibrations.

I've test driven several other hardtop convertibles both bmw, mercedes, and lexus and none of them had this problem...

Do any of you have this problem?

I have the occasional squeak and minor rattle, but nothing I could definitively trace back to the hard top. Then again my vert has only like 2500 miles on it.

That sounds really bad though... would drive me nuts. You're sure it's coming from the hardtop?

No sounds at all, certainly nothing like that. How did it start? Gradual then got worse or just showed up one day? If it just showed up was there an event preceding it (i.e., hit a pothole)?

I have never had that problem until recently. I took it in for the a rattle in the rear deck lid and they "lubed and adjusted the top" Now it is much worse. So I have to take it back in again Don't they test things after they do them ?!??!?!!? Arrrrg

That squeek would drive me crazy. My top rattled from the back right when I would go over expansion joints and frost heaves. It also very lightly leaked in rainstorms at the A pillars. Took it to the dealer and they replaced a servo motor and adjusted the top. No more rattle and for now, no leaks. But my passenger seatback has a high vibration rattle when going down the road. Throw in some bumpy roads and it goes nuts. I've complained to the dealer about it, but the techs don't hear anything when they take it out for a test drive.

No event, incrementally worse but it has always been pretty loud.

Fortunately I have not had the notorious leak yet but

My passenger seat back or some other part has a high vibration rattle as well. Where I go, the techs and service department have been great. I guess I never brought this up because I thought all e93s were in the same boat. But now, I'm getting really sick of it. Especially with the mileage I put on this car with the top up...

No leaks or squeeks, had mine for almost 3 years. That is unacceptable, make them fix it again.

Nothing like that! Sounds like a pinball machine. Does the squeak go away when left in non freezing temps? (looks cold there) Take a SA for a ride - that isn't acceptable.

My 7/2007 E93 @ 54k has a minor rattle by the a pillar area on the drivers side of the top. Cold or warm - same noise. I can reach thru the gap in the fabric by the window and putting pressure on the frame quiets it. I'm hopeful I can figure it out in the spring when it isn't freezing! The dealer probably won't help me since I'm over 50k and into the CPO phase of warranty...

I work with an EXCELLENT dealership so I have no doubts that they will tackle the issue. It squeaks regardless of environmental conditions.

NO Squeak here

07-2007 E93 with NO squeak at all on the top. Have ~39K miles. Have you ever had an accident?...I was rear ended about 2 years ago and the SA told me it was key that they line everything up with the trunk and the hard top and that this was exceedingly difficult to do. He said they have had a hard time at getting them aligned correctly with all the mechanics of the retractable hard top. Luckily they got mine done correctly....

Good Luck.

I was going to complain about my noises since I am considering buying my car at lease end. After hearing yours, I'll just be glad mine isn't as bad.

So far so good- 9500 miles on the clock.
Although... there is a minor vibration here and there but mostly a really annoying clattering noise sounding like the back rear shock when on rough pavement, but I'm told that's the trunk partition.
There is an occasional metallic rattling coming from the back driver side rear seat area.
All in all - it's a convertible, and there are many moving parts - I suppose you need to come to expect these sort of things I'm thinking.

16000 miles on mine now.

Now that it's cold, I hear the typical "flex" and rubbing noises every BMW I've ever had does (this is my third BTW). It's time to Gummi Fledge all the rubber parts, including the door seals and now the roof seals. That always takes care of it.

This stuff is great! I apply it once a year, always in winter.

47,000 on a 2007, no squeeks or rattles or leaks.

Strongly recommend using Gummi Phlege on the misc seals, and Wurth HHS-K spray for lubing the moving parts.

There is a very good thread on top maintenance over at that Bimmer fest forum.

No Gummi Phleg

I read that you shouldn't use it on the rubber.
