Questions on buying wheels
So I have to replace one of my rims so I might as well just get an entire new set. This is my first time purchasing wheels so I'm trying to figure out what I should look for and if I understand everything correctly.
Currently I'm running style 158 17x8.0's with 225/45/17's From what I understand anything from 17x7.0 to 17x8.0 as long as it has a 5x120 bold pattern should be acceptable. What I'm not sure of is the offset and the centerbore. 72.6mm seems to be the standard for OEM centerbores. Should I look for wheels that match the centerbore exactly? Or is getting something with a slightly larger centerbore okay? Will it affect the ride quality? Also, the 158's as far as I could tell have an offset of +34mm, what's the typical range for acceptable offsets for aftermarket wheels? Thanks guys. |

if your going aftermarket, you will want to go 18" or 19". 17" options are few and far between, and generally not very well priced.
Always go for a Hubcentric fit - 72.56mm (or 72.6) for the center bore, 5x120 bolt pattern. a Mid 30's ET is also the norm for offsets on the e9x |

i dont know what your style is for wheels... but in terms of width you can run 18,19X8,9,(10 back) im running 19x8.5 in the front and 19x10 in the back, the wider width, the "flusher" they will look with your fenders.

the offset calculator in this forum is pretty helpful.... recommend you try using to help decide as it pretty much helps depict how far or in your new wheels you choose will go, based on your current set up now...

Yeah, I've been playing with the calculator. Unfortunately I bought and mounted new tires assuming I could continue using my 17's.
I suppose it was my fault for not checking my rims beforehand, but it turns out that two of my rims were bent and one of which was cracked. The tire place went ahead and mounted them anyway, which was kind of bullshit that they didn't even mention it to me until afterwards. If they had, I would've told them not to mount the tires and returned them and just bought a wheel package from scratch. Right now I'm really just looking to find something to replace my 17's until I need to change my tires again, at which point I'll probably go with M6 reps. If I can find 2 style 158's that'd be even better. Sadly, I'm having trouble finding 158's... To bad it'd look retarded to run 2 different style wheels! lol Last edited by Lenaxia; 02-01-2011 at 01:03 AM.. |
