Clear Indicator Tape

May sound silly, but anyone think of using a clear self-adhesive type of sheet cut-out to fit over the US lights to mellow out the amber turning indicators? Any suggestions of what material i should use?

I'm pretty sure there is no other way to get rid of the amber, unless you change the headlights, which is about $2,400 from what i hear (on a Xenon, Adaptive) vehicle.

Let me know, we have a lot of creative people on this post.

Thanks.

You can get the lenses tinted for about $100, and they can darken the amber portion of the lens moreso than the rest. .

Yup, but they'll just turn a darker orange. Also since the headlights are curved you'll be able to see the orange parts when standing at an angle (not straight on to the car). Creative thinking tho.

I don't get why nobody has mentioned that we should be able to pawn off the current amber lights to a dealer (doubt it) or body shop (more likely) to recoup the majority of the cost of the clear headlights.

Is this really not feasible? It seems to me you should be able to the whole thing for no more than $500 net cost.

That's definitely something to try. Or, maybe contact one of the members here who are in Europe and see if they know of anyone who would want to swap their Euro-spec clears for American-spec lights. There are Europeans who actually prefer the orange look. Guess it's a case of something being more desirable just because it's something you can't/don't have.

Well, I'm here in the US, and I actually prefer the orange. It looks so sharp!

Just look at the car in the top banner of these forums... that orange gives great fire to the edge of the eyes. I've liked them from the get go, and I wouldn't want them clear. I've seen the clear, and if it was the situation where US cars got the clear lenses, I'd be on a thread asking "how do I get them orange??".

I dont know about IN the US, but on the US spec cars in Europe, you ARE able to swap them out....but you recoup hardly any of the value of the ambers. Right now to swap out regular ambers for regular clears (no ADP or Xenon) its 540 bucks.

It would be worth it to suck up the price initally and put the ambers on ebay...You'd sell in the UK in no time...

And those who are thinking RedStripe is nuts for his post, think again...I happen to think that SG E90's look HOT with the Ambers! They are the perfect compliment to the color...On Blacks, Monacos, and TiAg's forget about it...But SG's and Whites, I say it looks great!

Maybe a silly question, but WHY do the US 3 series get the amber lenses anyway. By law or what? I recall many Europeen car brands(Mercedes/VW/Audi)have different headlights than the same models here in Europe. Why is that?

Totally agree with that! If we cant get the orange lights people are going to want them to set there BM apart from the rest!

I'm really sorry, but I actually do not like the amber blinkers In fact I don't like any of the US specced German cars(headlights and the sidelights stuff etc)

Sorry for that

Sorry for what? We dont like them either!

It really is silly and I have tried looking everywhere on why it has to be this way. It has nothing to do with the lenses, its the FLASHING that the DOT says has to be Amber. And its the same way in Europe, which is why they make Amber bulbs!!

I ordered Black Sapphire, so i definitely think the amber looks odd. Amber indicators are some kind of US Department of Transportation requirement, but i'm not sure.

My car is on the ship, WOO HOO!

Mike, that's cause most of the pics that came out early are pics of E90's in Europe since it was released there earlier. The few people that have taken delivery in the US on this forum all have orange reflectors.
