Private number plates

What are peoples views? I never used to like them but I get called Jimmy and a number plate came up on the DVLA with LetterJ11MMY so I bought it. I realise I can't use it till I get a newer car next year or the year after but when I saw it I thought what the hell.

This has been covered many times before.
Most people fall into one of two camps; love them or hate them.

I personally quite like a private plate, with a caveat that it shouldn't need dodgy spacing/'none' letters/numbers (i.e. 7's with tops chopped off them etc) or a ton of fixing screws to look like something meaningful.

Yours clearly doesn't fall into that camp and I personally think it'll look very good.

That must have cost a few bob?

Quite a nice one that, as said no dodgy spacing required.

Cheers Sheps I won't be adjusting the plate at all. It does look good imo. It would look better without the letter at the front, but I suppose that's why it was cheaper than most.

I don't think people realise it's a letter then J11MMY so not that good. It was £1020.

J11 MMY can be fitted to any car manufactured after 1992, are you having a grey moment?

Yes, assuming you spell "Jimmy" with two letter i.

As most people do......

As you invited opinion, OP, I'll give it: I think they're dreadfully tacky

I am guessing that he bought JI11 MMY hence why it can't be used until next year.

I purchased PA11 LDH spelling my name PAUL and my initials - it is all about personal preference at the end of the day - I like private plates and whilst many mean bugger all to most, they are often special to the owners.

My current plate is relevent to my car and not me personally and willl be sold when the car goes next year - I now want a plate I can keep for ever

Good luck to the OP and enjoy your plate

Seeing as you ask, devoid of taste, class or style - in my view.
However, it does suit some folk and you can usually tell without looking at the car .

Private plates always make me laugh, sorry Paul but I would never have guessed PA11 LDH spells Paul. I think if you get something where it is so obvious what it is then thats cool but its when you have to tell people it says something you know its just tacky, worst ones are plates that spell ur initials, nobody ever gets it and the people with them drive you mad telling everyone its their initials.

I think JI11 MMY is not to bad its pretty obvious it says Jimmy, even if it is a football terrace shout greeting of Jiiiiiiiiimmy

I have never really liked them, especially if letters adjusted etc as already mentioned. There is an Aston Martin near me with the ROBBIE as a number plate, but all adjusted/spaced out letters and numbers to make it "work", makes car look cheap and nasty in my opinion, plate belongs on an XR3i.

However, I have recently been tempted to buy one, something subtle which means something to me, but looks normal to other people. I have seen MR07 WZA, is £800, so with Wza being my nickname, all my family/pals will know what it means, but to others it doesn't seem like i'm showing off - which obviously i will be to my mates!!!

No offence you your nickname, but how can MR07 WZA be £800????? More like £99! As you said it is a completely regular plate that happens to have some (unusual) characters in it.

You can get plates with 3 letter names like "BEN" or "DAN" etc for les than £800.

The plate is VJ11MMY. I didn't really want to put the full reg on here but seen as Paul has I suppose it can't do any harm.

I don't mind the negative comments, I used to think they were awful but when the missus emailed me a link with it on a car I thought that looks quite good.

I was told when I bought it that it cant go on a car older than a 2011 as it's a new plate in March this year.

Yes that's correct. I only got the car in May but hey ho I'll have to wait a while before I can use the plate.

Guilty as charged. On both counts.

Amusing that some years ago, I had a plate that was mis-spaced, illegally so (I'm a good boy now though!), but at the Channel ports, the Police were doing various checks on outgoing cars, the Policewoman even wrote it down mis-spaced. Must have thought is was a foreign one!

PEN15 is the best one.

Some look good some don't. I like simple ones. I've seen a Bentley with K3V GT it looked shit!

However Jimmy ones are immense.
