no wagon for the F30?
Are they for real? GT garbage only?
Tell me it isn't so. If so, when will the last orders for the current e91 be placed? I must know this timeline if I am to talk the wife into upgrading. I really dont want the A4 wagon.

that's what I'm worried about. not all that interested in the x1, x3 or 3GT. i want a wagon and to do ED. I might be able to swing a late summer/early fall ED for a e91 but we'd have to do some major money shuffling and penny pinching. we def weren't planning on trading our car in this year but i want a 3er wagon, not anything else.

If BMW does not make a US-Spec F30 wagon, ED would not solve the problem. Stopping by an Audi dealership might... |

True, but the Tip in the Avant is very, very good. It surprised me so much that I ordered one. Now they're telling me it's a 14 week wait. Fuck that. So now I'm looking at the 328iT, 335d, and Countryman. Ugh... I hate this part. If i knew BMW was going to make an F30 Touring with a manual I'd buy a beater and wait.

Quality Sound - if you are going to be in Germany in 2012/3 then you can get yourself an F30 wagon. The is definately going to be one made......for most of the world.
BMW USA has stated that THEY won't be importing wagons into the US. Canda gets shafted too, as we piggyback on BMWUSA. BMW USA only sells something like 2,000 wagons a year, out of close to 100,000 3 series. BMW USA does not import the 5 series wagon, which is available in most of the world, because they only sold 500 of them in 2009. If you want an F30 wagon to be an option, we need to call and write BMW USA and tell them we want to buy an F30 wagon in 2012/3 and will buy an Audi of one isn't available. If BMW USA thinks they could sell 4-5,000 a year, they would import the new wagon |

I think it is safe to say that there will NOT be a 3-series wagon in the USA with the next generation.

You also don't even have the same tranny. The JSW has either a manual or a DSG. A4 Avant was a 6-speed manual or Tip until this year when it went to 8-speed Tip only. Last, it's not even the same chassis. The JSW is on the same chassis as the A3, GOlf, GTI, and Scirocco. The A4 is on the same platform as the Passat and CC. |

i do have the DSG. i have had experience with the tip/step trannys and they are relatively the same as the DSG. you don't feel much difference, sure there is some but I'm not going to select a wagon because one shifts .000000231 faster. i did not know this about the chasis, but my butt feels like I'm sitting in the same sized car going from my JSW to my friends A4. the difference is inches or less and I'm not the type to select by those parameters. we can agree to disagree but they are relatively the same sized cars, look a lot alike, and have a lot of similar styled components and prolly even share a few. I'll likely be stuck with the A4 wagon in the future which is fine, I'd just prefer the BMW one.

We're trying to stay over here for one more tour but I' mnot buying a euro spec car. I'd have to do that on the economy and the current 3er Touring is 31,000-47,000 Euro before adding ANY options. No thanks. We buy US spec cars at a discounted price, a discount which, from what I'm being told, will drop to $1500 and pretty much defeats the purpose of buying over here and will cost them a TON of military sales. I want to see the F30's nose before I'd decide anyway. I didn't notice it before but ALL the new models have the hood cutline above the kidneys and it look retarded. |

Yes, the 2.0T you have is VERY detuned. But the car is lighter so that makes up for it. The DSG and Tip are VERY different. DSG is an automated manual with dual clutches. The Tip is an old school slushbox. I'd MUCH rather have the Tip, to be honest. It's a better tranny. You won't see the difference in the front seat. The A4 has more back seat room. JSW, being a wagon, has longer overhangs though so you can't really compare. Put the JSW next to an A4 Avant and you'll see the true difference in size. They absolutely share components. VW/Audi always do. I don' tkow how you can say they're even similar looking though. |

To the OP: If you want to order a 328i Sportwagon, you better do it before mid-April. The 2011 3-series production will cease in June. The F30 will probably hit the states in mid fall. Will there be an F30 sportwagon in NA? No one really knows, but all indications are no. The GT and X1 seem destined to replace it on this side of the pond. That's why I ordered mine yesterday. Even if it is replaced by a new design. the one that's out there now is an outstandingly sporty, reliable, and sensible car. Probably the most successful (328) vehicle BMW has ever made.
Good luck with your plans. Doug |
