That's good to know, thanks! Does it improve the reception? Does it show Album Art?

Yes it does improve reception because according to spec. it connects the iPhone with the car antenna.

Album Art? I guess so but I'm not sure. My car doesn't have the 6NF option (I use an iPod instead).
That's why I ordered the Basic adapter. There are in fact 3 different adapters:

Snap-In-Adapter Apple iPhone™ 4 Basic
für Fahrzeuge mit SA 633 oder SA 644
Snap-In-Adapter Apple iPhone™ 4 Music
für Fahrzeuge mit SA 633 oder SA 644 und SA 6FL und SA 6NF
Snap-In-Adapter Apple iPhone™ 4 Media
für Fahrzeuge mit SA 633 o. 644 und SA6FL und SA 6NF und SA 6VC

Is this the official part that is made by Peiker (mentioned in other threads)? My German isn't that good but am I right in saying that the adapter for cars with the USB interface is not yet available?

Yes, the package says "Original BMW part".

And yes, the adapter that streams music and video over bluetooth is not yet available.

The specs is probably a generic one for possible features available when supported by the phone.

Unfortunately, for iPhone, it is not possible. If you look at the pin out of the iPhone connection, there is simply no antenna connection.

Can soneone please then explain the additional benefit of having this snap-in adaptor if you already have the bluetooth and USB option?

Zero Benefit. I don't understand what the hype is over snap in adapters. It would be a pain to open the center console every time, increases the chance of forgetting the phone, cannot see text messages, and if you use a case, it has to be removed every time.

The ideal solution is to keep an ipod permanently plugged in and connect the cell with bluetooth.

I guess it's a left-over from the early days.
..Only thing missing is the twisted coord connecting the hand unit to the intergrated cellphone device.

Maybe some benefit.

Appears that the upcoming 6NR option, which may be a software update to post-Combox cars, will require the 6NF option. Although I agree it's benefit without this requirement is a stretch, the deep integration between the phone and car looks promising and if this $150 option is needed, it may be worth the gamble.

Are you 100% sure about this ? Or is this just your opinion ?
According to the specs and several sites and forums the iphone gets connected to the antenna with the snap-in !

"Looking at the pin- out" is not a strong argument to me !

Is there anyone that can clear this out ?

Option 6NR also has very little benefit. So far the only published features are

− Access to social networks Facebook and Twitter in the vehicle.
− Stream web radio stations into the vehicle.
− Operation of music playback with the Apple iPhone user interface on the vehicle Control Display.

The first 2 features are useless. Who wants to twitter and make facebook posts while driving? Do we really need web radio? The car already has the option of sirius, mp3, hd radio, cd, streaming pandora. Apple user interface sounds cool but the current system works just fine.

Agree on lack of interest in FB and Twitter, but disagree on web radio and more importantly, future apps and integration. If this option allows for the phone to drive the apps and the car to be the output device, I am interested. Anything that removes the car having to update to the phones current capability will speed up availability. What is being touted is a phone capability can be available on the cat without waiting for BMW to catch up.

What about charging the phone? If the iPhone is running Bluetooth, the battery drains quickly.

Yeah, you're right. It's just, I have a 160 GB iPod permanently connected to the USB.

The snap-in adapter uses the external antenna, to create a stronger signal "inside" the snap-in adapter around the iPhone 4 antenna.

So both are right. It does not use the connector, but it works! Like the previous adapters for iPhone.

Thanks for the answer !

Since I have a dedicated iPod on my USB connection, the snapin is also interesting to charge my iPhone.

Another good thing is that I'm easily tempted to do stuff on the iPhone while driving ... maybe when it's in the armwrest I won't do this dangerous thing anymore ... :-) ... and when I forget my phone, no one will notice it ...

I had the iPhone3 adapter, and I found that I "had" to check SMS++ while driving. When it is in the armrest it is even more dangerous... Not showing when forgotten, is a +. But I also use offline Spotify, and this is "impossible" in the armrest, so I now prefer to have it connected with the iPod cable, and leave it just outside the "box". Then I can navigate Spotify.

That's why I ordered the Basic adapter. There are in fact 3 different adapters:

Snap-In-Adapter Apple iPhone™ 4 Basic
für Fahrzeuge mit SA 633 oder SA 644
Snap-In-Adapter Apple iPhone™ 4 Music
für Fahrzeuge mit SA 633 oder SA 644 und SA 6FL und SA 6NF
Snap-In-Adapter Apple iPhone™ 4 Media
für Fahrzeuge mit SA 633 o. 644 und SA6FL und SA 6NF und SA 6VC
Is there any accurate information on the 3 adapters ?

There is a huge price difference and i would really like to know what features are available on those.

For instance, in the high end 'media' adapter will you be able to play movies on your idrive screen ?

So far i haven't found any complete information in the BMW website or any other site.

Any help appreciated,

Regards,

Elie
