Navigation Pro & Like to switch between split/full screen?
......ok so with the nav pro i find i am driving around with map view on larger left hand side (as viewed from UK driving position) and in the split screen pane often have "Entertainment details" so basically displaying iPod album art.
i find myself wanting to switch to full wide-screen sat nav map view though and wanted a quicker way to do it then using the i-drive controller to toggle the menu and select / deselect the checkbox for split screen. so the obvious solution that i guess most have found but thought i'd post my tip anyway is to simply open the menu so you can see the split screen checkbox, highlight it with the i-drive controller and then save that position to one of the 1-8 favourite keys on the radio controls. i saved it to key #8 so now if i want to flip back n forth between full screen map view or split screen i just hit one key, #8 neat |

That is a good idea and may do the same thing.
For my car, I have programmed: #8 OIL LEVEL (new car..new engine, so check it frequently) #7 TRIP COMPUTER (so I can reset my (MPG) each time I fill up the Car) #6 MANUAL (not sure if this is worthwhile, have not needed it yet) #5 WEATHER CHANNEL (may get rid of this, not really using it) #4 IPOD PLAYER #3 CD IN DASH Player #2 SIRIUS #1 PRESET STATIONS The only wierd thing with the system so far is that when I press and look at #7 or #8, it does not allow me to go back to 1,2,3, or 4 when I press that "favorites" button. It acknowledges that these are the favorites I programmed, but does not do anything. So instead, I hit the appropriate, Radio or CD on the i-Drive and gets me back to where I need to be. Not sure why this happens this way other than something that BMW missed in their programming of the system. I wonder what others are doing with their (8) favorites? |

I find that switching to the "iPod" preset from all other preset buttons, with the exception of "Tone" - does not work. My workaround: I select the "Tone" button and then the "iPod" button in quick succession. I suspect it's a bug in their software. Otherwise those programmable buttons are a brilliant feature. -- two frequently used cellphone numbers -- Radio/Sat Presets -- Trip computer -- Tone -- iPod -- Split screen |

So instead, you should program your own phone with your wife's key or your wife's profile being active at one of the favorite buttons (could be the same number #7) and it will not appear in your own profile. |

Very clever but quite complex all this isn't it! Are you saying that if I access and start the car with the other key to the one I used when setting the 8 pre-sets, the pre-sets will not be there but I can load a different 8 again with that key?

If you use your wife's key, you will find that all the favorite buttons are "Unassigned". This may confuse some people, especially the memory seat. After you set your seat memory with your key, you will find that the settings is not there when you use your wife's key. Each key (or key profile, the term BMW uses) has its own set of favorite buttons, seat memories, Radio presets, and "last used state" for climate control, iDrive mode etc. There is even "Guest" profiles available if someone else need to drive the car and you don't want him/her to mess up your own settings. |

You can store the address in the address book and "Store in vehicle"; and you can choose one to "Store as home address" from options. Then you can point your favorites to the address book/stored destinations.

If you press the option button, then the control wheel you go straight to split screen. Alternatively, as another poster suggested, use the voice control by saying "split screen" and then when you want to revert just say "map".
