AWD must have same sized wheels all around.

This is common knowledge.

Staggered wheels are not different diameters, but different widths. You need the same diameter wheel/tire combination on AWD. Width is irrelevant. The 335xi comes from the factory with a staggered setup (at least with the sports package upgrade - 8" fronts, 8.5" rears)

So no, it is not true, though I think you're defining staggered incorrectly.

This is incorrect. As I said, BMW sells the xi with staggered wheels on it.

Same size wheels can be different withs but you must compensate for it...with tire sizes

i run
19 x 8.5 Front
19 x 9.5 Rear

If you go to the BMW website you will see this for yourself.

Front: 225/40/18 - 18x8 rims
Rears: 255/35/18 - 18x8.5 rims

This is staggered and I have been running this setup (from the factory) for 3 years. Please people if you do not know the correct answer, do not comment. It can be very misleading for a prospective buyer trying to get facts...

Yes, you can. But, if you want to rotate your tires, don't do it.

I drive an x-drive (see pic below) with staggered wheels and never had a problem.

I'm guessing common knowledge is more of a relative term in this sense

Now, it's been a while since I had an AWD vehicle, but as I recall, if you keep your tires properly inflated and the alignment and suspension are all correct, there's not as much point to rotating tires on AWD as there is on FWD or RWD due to the tire wear being more or less even. I assume the since BMW provides the vehicle with staggered tires that they agree.

That's right for the most part, particularly in a car as well balanced front to back as this one.

There might be a bit more wear on the turning wheels, but not a ton. My two sets of rubber are wearing roughly the same front to back.

I can see your point, but don't forget that most AWD systems aren't 50/50 ... it can be 62/38 rear-to-front, especially in dry conditions. I would think this would lead to uneven wear.

When you add the 18inch wheels from the factory is comes staggered. That's how mine came..

In this scenario we will do the same thing our rear-wheel drive and staggered counterparts do...

Subjective....are you tracking? IMO a stagger is the only way to roll with the 335 fat ass...then there are spacers. If you want to get all compliant and scientific , you can't rotate but you're not going to do burnouts in an AWD anyway so the wear should be even. Styling yes...tracking no
