Exclamation HPFP Recall Letter

Hey guys,
Not sure if you have seen this yet, just came in the mail yesterday. I have not had HPFP problem (yet) but it will be good to get a true fix.

Enjoy!

Hmmm, any idea how they are rolling this out? I have a May 07 335i and haven't received a letter yet. I bought it used CPO from a local BMW dealer, financed through BMW Credit and registered it on-line. No way they don't know where to send the Recall letter!

About 4-6 weeks (or less) after buying your CPO car, you get a nice little welcoming packet from BMW. This happened with my 335i and my previous E46 M3 CPO purchase. So BMW does know where you live (unless your selling dealer was a total bollocks). The Letter will come. Mine came this past week.

This is an indirect answer, and based on my experience and lots of phone calls: Pre-decemeber, a lot of the service people didn't even know about the recall. During december, the letters were going out, and the service centers were saying "just wait until you get the letter"...now it's january, and service centers are all up to speed and I just went in and set up an appointment.

In december, they wouldn't work on your car without the letter. Now, they'll work on it; so now that it's january, don't be afraid to just call them up and set up an appointment!

OK, great news, and Thanks!
I'm going to wait and see what the reports from folks are after getting "Serviced". I've seen reports that some places just do the software update, others to software and HPFP, and even others that include injectors in the servicing....
Right now, I'm running just fine at 45K+ miles, so following the path of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", I'll wait until I get the Letter, or there are consistent reports on what is to be changed, and how well that treats the issue.

You could wait all you want...it probably won't change anything. There are three parts to the "Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign 10E-A02." Which combination of the three you're going to get....is vehicle/vin specific. The dealerships scan your key/vin and get a response from BMWNA's system. Which ever parts BMWNA's system prompts to follow...is what the dealership does.

Got my letter this past week, have appt. on 1/17 to have my early '07 checked out, despite the fact that I've already had my hpfp replaced. Might be a newer model pump, newer software, or even injectors that are dictated by the recall. I'll report back after they determine what, if anything, will be done to mine. 28K miles on it now and no problems after pump replacement last year.

My letter came 2 days ago and I have an appointment on Tuesday, upon talking to my dealership, it sounded like others have said before it is car specific. He asked me whether or not the letter said replacement, software update, or both.

Are you implying that not everyone will get the recall letter?

I just got my car a few weeks ago and have not received a letter but I went to my local northern california BMW dealership yesterday and they mentioned there was a HPFP recall outstanding and they performed a software update. The exact wording on my service receipt was:

"Perform open recall for HDP fuel pump B13-09-10". There was something else about "checked vehicle integration level and is E89X-10-09-511 and it should be E89X-10-12-501. Programed and encoded."

Not sure if this was just prior recall that this car hadn't been through or if it was any way related to the letters everyone is now receiving...

From what I have been reading, not everyone will get one....but take that for what its worth, I dont see how it cannot affect everyone.

I received the letter last week and have an appointment on 1/27. That was the soonest I could get in with a loaner.

Just brought my 335xi in for the recall. They're performing all three items on my car: 1) changing the injectors, 2) high pressure fuel pump, and 3) reprogramming the car. I will report back after I get my car back.
