Thinking about selling soon.....
Well, I am thinking about selling my 2007 335i coupe soon....(in 3-4 month with about 50k on the clock). I lost my job, and not that I cannot afford the car (its paid in full), I just want to get something cheaper and that does not depreciate as much. At first I wanted Lexus ISF or Cayman (will see how the stock market does), but without the job I am thinking about stepping down to S2000 I figure I can sell the car for 25-26k (my car still has factory warranty and its CPO) and get S2000 for 15-17k
what do you think ? |

for next 6 month new job is not really an option, i wanted to focus on stock market......dont really need a job since i should be collecting rent money (unless tenants dont pay). but extra 6-7k from sale wouldnt hurt, plus its a good time to sell the car when CPO kicks in, the new owner will enjoy the car worry-free for next 2 years.

Would this new car be your only one? An s2000 makes for a great second or weekend car....

If its paid off and you still have the free service, I would just keep it, then just see where you are in 2 years.

You could make an s2000 a DD assuming it meets your needs. Its no bmw, but i'm sure it'll be great.
Good luck on the stock market. |

I can sure keep 335, but i know that in next 1-2 years it will have to be traded-in for very little, thats why i was thinking about selling now for a smaller loss. I like S2k because its a special car, RWD, LSD, reliable, and about 10k cheaper for the year I am looking.....I guess in time for decision I will know better what to do...... |

S2k is the cheapest reasonable car that I could come up with. I do like Civic SI, but its FWD. I am a car enthusiast and prefer to drive something that falls in this category, I just dont want my car to effect my money spending decisions.... Last edited by Kolyan2k; 01-08-2011 at 10:19 AM.. |

before you purchase the s2000 take it for a extended test drive. I had the pleasure of driving one about 3 months ago and it was a blast to drive. However, there are a few draw backs to the car. First locate a chiropractor because that is one of the stiffest suspensions i have ever felt and the seats do not do a lot to cushion the bumps. Second there is massive road noise in the soft top version and very little room for us bigger guys, i am 6'3 220 lbs and i just fit in the car and can just manage to drive it with the seat all the way back. Mileage wont be great if your anything like me because vtech sounds so good in that car that you will most likely be high revving a lot. Plus most of the power is high in the band due to low torque. If you can afford to keep the 335 i would, i can think of plenty of reasons to keep the bmw. Once the car is paid off is probably the only time when the car is even remotely close being considered an investment. Don't get me wrong I love Honda my first car was a 2006 civic si and it was a great car. Surprising fast for a 2.0 liter and it handled decent.

Exactly. Having no job is a dire situation. Not sure what the OP's age is, but obviously the younger the better. Rather than worry about the stock market or how much this car or that car can sell for, spend the 14 hrs. you would normally spend at work and look for a job, as if you were selling yourself.
I just talked to this guy Ron at the gym, he's like 57 and used to earn hundreds of thousands a year, he said he exhausted his emergency unemployement. We've been talking about this for 1 1/2 years already. He said he'd settle for a 100k job, but isn't about to work for anything less. Not really sure if that's the right attitude but people have their pride. Also, a CPO 2007 with under 30k sells for 28 at my dealership, not sure if the OP would even get 20 for his. |

You will not get that much for it. I was just looking at selling my 328i coupe with 60,000 miles (but fully loaded, nav, sport, premium, etc.) and is also CPO. I was offered $15,000. Granted the 335 is worth more and you have less miles, but you will likely only get at most $20,000 for the car if that much.

The best advice you've already been given is to keep your BMW (it's paid for and has free maintenance and warranty) and look for another job. Having a gap in your employment history is not the best resume metric. If I were looking at you to hire, I'd ask why the gap in employment, and if the response was, "well I took some time off before I looked for new work..." I'd be in John070's camp and figure this guy's not hungry for it. Good luck to you. |

Since when 2007 fully loaded CPO with 45-50k miles 335i is $20k ? I will buy another one for my GF right now You guy must have been smoking something.....look at KBB and Edmunds value. $28k-29k for a CPO from a dealer with 30k miles sound about right....I am planning on selling my fully loaded for $25-26k with the same CPO almost new tires and probably new brakes.
I dont have resume, I was sort of self employed for past 8 years. I am 30 now. I cant find any jobs, the only way to go for me is start another business, do stocks, or become partners with my friend who owns a small dealership (can do this in 6 month not now). EDIT: it looks like you can find a crappy color Automatic CPO for 27k. I have 6-speed, Deep Green/Saddle interior. Of course I am not saying i can sell it, but i sold my M3 in less then 24 hour because buyer was looking for killer color combo. 07 335xi, sedan, 6-speed w/70k miles and no CPO got sold for 18.5k + $500 dealer auction fee few week ago at local dealer auction. < This means whoever bought it, will sell it for $22-24k Last edited by Kolyan2k; 01-08-2011 at 12:17 PM.. |

22-24 is very realistic considering black book / manheim and your mileage.
price may be higher for private party sale; check out carmax, you should expect a price in that range i gave you, maybe a bit higher because i'm unfamiliar with your area personally i'd keep the car unless the extra cash was going to make a big difference in your investments. |

A 3-4 year old car with ~50k miles (known issues and no warranty) should be worth ~55% of original value, so low $20's isn't all that far out of the question. |

1st is National Avg, 2nd is MA. From Adesa Dealer Auction. This is what dealer pays for the car before the mark-up which is usually 3-5k Last edited by Kolyan2k; 01-08-2011 at 04:21 PM.. |
