HPFP recall notice

Just got a recall notice from BMW for my E90 335i (2008) - re: HPFP recall campaign.

Quick note - I bought the car a few months back as a CPO - have put in around 4k miles and haven't had any issues so far. In the Carfax check at the time I bought the car, the only thing showing up a couple of time was 'engine module checked' - nothing else. So I am not sure if the HPFP was ever replaced on this car, or maybe this is one of those that never suffered from an HPFP issue.

I am going to schedule an appointment with the dealer for the recall service (possible HPFP replacement) - anything I need to keep in mind or be cognizant of when this service is performed? The reason I ask is that I have seen many posts here of people that complained of decreased power/response after the recall / software update. Thanks!!!

If you got a letter you are part of the recall which means schedule for service and have it done...mine was done also.

I got my letter today, too. If they determine you need the software update either by itself or wth a new pump, request that the Tech include the "wastegate option", which will eliminate the "turbo lag" introduced when they revised the software to eliminate "wastegate rattle". This is optional and you will only get it if you request it. There is noticeable turbo lag without getting this done, and this was part of a service bulletin that was mentioned on this forum a few month back. Also, if you have Dinan software, be sure that they mention that on the work order as well, as it will need to be reflashed if they update the base ECU software.

Thanks Roundel for the advice. I am scheduled to take my car in next Monday - so just to recap, I should ask them to include the wastegate option when they do the software upgrade? Will they know this terminology, or is there a TSB number that I have to refer to? I don't have any tune on the car.

I am not having mine done, I got 48K on my 4yr 07 and never had a problem, not interested in having them mess with the car like they did with other people's and they are now on the 3rd or 4th pump. I do not believe anyone has publish any information that said they actually fix the problem or that the pump was the actual problem or a symptom of the real unknown issue.

Also, I love how the lawyer got their hands on the recall notice, it is not being recall because the car can shut off on speed and their is a high probability of getting in a serious accident. No it is being recalled since the pump will fail and can cause the car to fail emissions which is a federal law.

Excuse me, a non-running car does not put out any emissions so you can not fail emission unless your criteria is when the car is rolling down the road it suppose to put out emissions.

Did you feel any difference in the car's response after the software upgrade?

I'm confused. This is the 2nd recall letter I got. After I got the first letter 1-2 years ago, I had the recall done.

Wonder if this 2nd letter is valid? If so, I'll hold off until I'm close to 120K or whatever the HPFP warranty is. Would be cool to use this 2nd recall letter for a new HPFP later on.

this recall is different than anything previous to december 2010. Even if the hpfp was replaced recently, there is still a software update

and yes, your car is one that suffered from an hpfp issue
