CPO Warranty
Hello,
I'm beginning to second guess my decision to not get the extended warranty on my CPO '07 E92 335i. I bought in January, 2010, (LOVE IT!). It had 24k miles on it and I now have 42k miles on it. My 4/50 warranty expired 12/22/2010. I was comfortable with the fact that the CPO warranty runs for 6/100, but am looking for any opinions or thoughts on my decision and if there's anything I could/should do. Thanks. |

What "extension" are you talking about. CPO is 6/100, never heard of a CPO Warranty beyond that. Are you talking about a 3rd party or Dealer warranty beyond that?

sorry if it wasn't clear. yes, the CPO is 6/100, but the dealer was trying to sell me an extension on the 4/50, which i passed up on. i know they are different, but aren't there some important items (injectors, turbo) covered on the 4/50 or am i totally off base? am i comfortably covered with the 6/100 plan? i realize there will never be 100% coverage, but looking for clarification.

CPO covers the drivetrain so anything with the engine and tranny is covered. what is doesnt cover is electronics such as nav or stereo..id relax as you have 2 more years of warranty.

The extended warranty can go up to 7 years (vs. 6 yrs for CPO), but generally the 1-year extension over CPO doesn't make financial sense. You case is a godd example, you can buy the extended warranty for additional 1-yr (to the end of 2013 instead of 2012 for your CPO warranty).

Great information. Just what I was looking for. Thanks for the peace of mind. I had incorrectly assumed that it was for 6 years from when I got it, but now I realize how silly that would be. Thanks everyone.

Be careful. There are many exclusions within the power train that CPO will not cover. For instance, I had a tranny fluid seal leak that they would not cover. "seals and gaskets are considered a wear and tear item so they aren't covered"

IMO, if you already paid for CPO on the car (through the purchase price), it's not worth it to get the extended warranty. Save that money in the bank for misc faults the CPO does not cover.
If you have no coverage past the 4/50 period, then you should purchase it. |
