Should I delete M Sport suspension? Colour? Servotronic ?
I'm going to order my new 320d Sport Plus with just about every option there is. Will have 18" RFTs. It's a lease so won't be able to get rid of the run flats.
I'm trying hard to decide whether to delete the M Sport suspension from the build. I had an E92 M Sport with 19" bridgestone RFTs - too tiring on crap British roads except on the best motorways. My current E60 M Sport on 18" RFTs is ok. Any thoughts? I'm rubbish in test drives, so it's hard for me to tell the difference between standard and sport suspension, and it's impossible to test with the same wheel / tyre combo. Also the 320d models (except the Efficient Dynamics) come with hydraulic power steering I believe - all other 3s come with electric. None come with Servotronic with the electric or hydraulic steering as standard. I think my '09 E60 will have servotronic. I'm not sure if I should go for this option or not? Finally, jet black, black sapphire, or le mans blue? It will have sun protection glass and the limited edition dark chrome 193M rims and dark chrome exhaust pipe. Help! Any insight appreciated! |

le mans blue ftw. as for the msport suspension is it just the suspension or are u talking about the msport package which includes the msport bumpers and steering wheel? Not sure how it is in the UK with packages but if you are talking about the msport package, i would keep it bc it looks amazing. If it is just the suspension and you are worried about the ride quality then just leave it out.

Yeah, just M Sport suspension. The rest of the package is great. Our roads are a mess compared to the US. Even worse now that road funding has been cut from the budget!

I've got SE suspension and 17" wheels. I like it.
I had a loaner M-sport with 18" wheels, in London. I thought it was a PITA; it just wasn't a fun car to drive on London roads. Too stiff and actually made the car slower because the driving wheels lose traction over the typical imperfections on British roads. Of course, that's my opinion and others will think the opposite. Also I like black. Jet black probably looks blacker when it is new, but it's a solid colour so probably looks a bit older faster. BTW I recommend you spec the heated steering wheel. |

I had a similar issue with 18 inch rims and the sport suspension in NYC.
19s, on anything other that pristine roads are going to result in bent rims and bubbled tires. My solution was to go with non RFTs and to replace the shocks with Koni FSDs. In stock form the car was very unpleasant to drive in NYC and now it is much better, Still feels firm (which is to be expected in a performance car) but the harshness is gone. CA

I think I will delete the M suspension, particularly as I can't change the tyres on a lease car.
Still can't decide on whether to get Servotronic though! Last edited by Titanflux; 01-06-2011 at 05:31 PM.. |

LeMans Blue, and get servotronic. You will be glad if you did because it will eliminate the tramlining a lot.

Guys first post so apologies if this is all over the place.
About to place order for 325D Sport Plus coupe and wanted to know how the guy ordering the 320D went on with deleting the M suspension. Having had two M Sport 1 series I know all about uneven roads and loss of grip on uneven surface but love the handling on good surfaces. Really tempted to not delete but with 19" RFT I am expecting a hard ride. Test drove a 320D with M suspension and felt ok. Any view on whether 3 series coupe may be more refined than my 1 series?
