Soooo I brought my car in for service...
If you find my previous post (about a month ago), I posted that I had an issue with my vehicle downshifting (auto trans). When slowing down to about 5 miles an hour, the car would jerk extremely hard into first, really annoying. They claim its normal but they are willing to look into it (they gave me a 335xi as a loaner, and it doesn't downshift hard at all). They are ready to claim that the "adaptive transmission" may not allow another 335i to drive like my 335i. Is there a way they can reset it?
Secondly, microfilter needs to be changed...$260 bucks?? What is that for? Third HFPF, was never replaced due to recall so they're going to do it for fun. Some electronic scope thing that they suggest to check the electronics, they want to charge me $70 for it. They'll let me know tomorrow what/if there are any issues. Any comments/advice? Took the car into Patrick BMW in Schaumburg, IL for any locals that have any info on their service department. |

1) Neutral Idle Control, NIC....You can have it coded out but it will increase gas mileage. I recently had my car reprogrammed because my passenger seat airbag sensor mat was faulty and they had to reprogram the whole car to the newest software to reinitialize the system.
Jerkiness is somewhat improved. Still there though. 2) Microfilter is part of your AC system. It filters the incoming ir into the cabin. IIRC, it's a $20 or so part. About 10 screws to remove, remove the cover, then replace the filter and revers the first 2 steps....very simple and not worth the quoted $260. Just ask for the part and do it yourself. 3) HPFP is a recall and needs to be done. You can opt to not do it but I think you won't be covered if it fails. |

OP: Let them do the HPFP and and anything else that is FREE.
As for the microfilter, if your car is out of warranty, this is an easy DIY, see post 30 here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...icrofilter+diy Transmission reset, see here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...e+driver+reset

One more thing. Since you are new here, here are some useful links:
1) Here is a link where you can find your owner’s manual (in case you lost it) and videos about your car http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/dgh.aspx 2) Here is a list of useful DIYs (Even if you don’t DIY as least you know what they do when they work on your car) http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1721 3) This link is a must read if you are thinking about modding your car, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66970 4) If you are thinking about extended warranties take a look here, especially at post #20 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ded+warranties 5) If you have an iphone (android app coming soon), download the bimmerpost app http://www.bimmerpost.com/tag/bimmerpost-app/ Welcome and Happy Motoring!

Hiya,
Chicago local here. I think they may be overcharging and trying to get extra unnecessary work done so that they can make some cash off you. If you are still in warranty then they should not be charging you a thing. The HPFP recall is a good thing. Have them replace it. It should also come with updated software for the car. Finally, talk to them about the fuel injector recall that recently cropped up. You have a 07 model so chances are you will be covered under that recall and that should be free as well. If your maitenance/warranty is over, then definitely purchase parts yourself. Normally one of the best places to buy OEM parts is http://getbmwparts.com/ which is the web front end to TischerBMW. Just to make it very clear: recall work has nothing to do with warranty. Everything under recall is free and covered by BMW regardless of mileage and/or warranty status.

I've never dealt with Patrick's service but I have with sales and other people there and they are all a bunch of douches IMO. Doesn't surprise me they are trying to scam you.

What is NIC? Some kind of software upgrade? What does it do?
Filter is an easy DIY, although you'll need to get the service light reset or by a Bavarian Technic cable to do it yourself (I think that will do it) Electronic scope? Uhhhh....does everything work? If so, you're good to go. They're probably just looking for trouble codes, which they aught to do for free if you're in for warranty service. It's great they're giving you the new HPFP without asking though. Try the transmission reset DIY and see if that fixes your shifting. |

Ever let your foot off the brake after a complete stop and it feels like your brake are still applied for a second. It's the NIC re-engaging the diff. Very poor design and execution by BMW. |

Do dealerships service departments compete on pricing on services? I may call another dealership to see if it would be the same or better.
Everything else works as far as my electronics goes... I have purchased a BMW from Patrick in the past and haven't had one in the last 3 years but when I walked into the dealer area after buying this car last month, its a bunch of italian guys with pinky rings drinkin espresso (no offense), and me being a personal trainer walked in there looking for the service department in gym shorts they looked at me like I was homeless. The service advisor was kind of an a$$ also. I purchased my first porsche from Motor Werks of Barrington and had a great experience also, but when I told them I purchased a car from a different dealer they said I cannot have a loaner car when I do service with them. So thats out since I work 6 days a week and have no extra time to even take a shit, so waiting for the car is impossible. One more thing I noticed about the loaner Patrick gave me, the lights, when you hit the unlock, the angel eyes come on and the break lights also. Does mine do that??? I have a 2007 335i...this one is a newer 335xi. Thanks again guys from protecting me from getting railed lol. |

Just got a call from my supposed "service advisor". He reset the adaptive transmission and the jerk has stopped during the downshift.
Hpfp has been replaced. No issues. retracted previous price for airfilter....all work for $250, i said i'll wait before i get that done. the electronic scope is apparently required to reset the service light and to check the rest of the electronics....what a joke, $70 to turn off a light? I did mention the other dealer and he said that wasn't possible. |

That statement right there of "that not being possible" should be all the reason you need to never go there again. I know what you mean with the type of douche's working there. It's like Jersey Shore goes to prom.
Do the filter yourself, it's easy and takes 10 min. |
