2007 335i coupe AT jerky shifting problem solved
Hey all,
I've been noticing my car has a problem with some hard shifting at slower speeds (auto tranny). I've also read a few threads with people complaining about the same thing. Here's what i did to fix it... Got a fresh oil change. Not tranny oil, engine oil. Looks like I was about 1300miles away from the yearly maintenance. Lesson learned: Change oil at smaller intervals. Car shifts as smooth as butter now, high speeds and low speeds. |

I know it sounds dumb but this actually did a world of difference for me. Just letting people know what worked, in case they've exausted all other options.

The comments are here because, unless your oil was pure sludge, changing your oil won't even noticably affect how your engine runs- it only affects longevity. To extend that to the transmission doesn't make sense. It must be a coincidence.
Oh yeah- changing my blinker fluid resulted in much sharper turn in when changing lanes and turning onto new streets, but only when I'd signal. |

You are confusing correlation with causation...happens all the time. Let us know how it is shifting in a 1000 miles from now or when the weather changes.

I have this same problem, only in low gears it seems like its "jarring" basically it's not smooth power, it sounds "lumpy" lol.
However after a nice clay and wax on my hood the exhaust sounds much deeper and louder than before lol

It's partly a placebo effect. An oil change, especially when done at such long intervals, can make you feel like you've renewed your car completely. I feel that way about my Accord when I change the oil and I do it every 3-5k miles.
However, an oil change does make your engine run better, and could potentially improve transmission feel, simply because your trans is hooked up to the engine (I would hope :P). However I doubt it would have much of an effect on how the transmission performs. How many miles are on your 3? You have an 07- it may be time to change some of that trans fluid. Either way, enjoy the car!

Dealership reset the drive by wire. Totally makes sense to me why someone might think that they're car runs better after a visit. BMW usually uploads any new firmware they have available. This resets the ecu and the drive by wire. Shifting is much smoother after.
