heating
I know this is probably a dumb question but everytime I hit auto to heat up my car it goes full blast. Then i have to press the lower button like 5 times. Is there a way to set it so it only has a few bars on the heat?

You are tuning the heat on auto and then switching it to manual by hitting the button to slow the fan down which is pointless if you want it on auto.
Dont press the auto button, set the temp dial to whatever you want and control the fan speed manually. |

Auto will try to get the car to the set desired temperature as fast as it can, as it starts heating up, the fan will decrease on its own. Same goes for cooling!

May I ask a question. Are you leaving the system in auto mode when you turn off the car for the evening, or do you leave it in manual mode? If the car starts cold with the HVAC system in auto mode, then the system will gradually increase the fan speed and direct the air flow as necessary as the coolant heats up and can provide heat to the interior. If you start the car with the HVAC system in manual mode and then switch it to auto, it will, as you have experienced, go full blast to try and heat the cabin as fast as possible.

Yes the AC compressor will come on the get the humidity out of the air when it is needed. But this does not mean the Air Conditioner is putting out cold air. The air is dehumidified and then heated before it is put out.

Great thanks for the info. So Lets say its 20 degrees out. Do you turn on the car and hit auto or turn the desired temp and adjust the power for for how strong you want it to blow?

2) Turn the car on (temp should be the same as last time you used it) and manually adjust the fan speed if it is too high for you. Adjusting the fan speed after hitting AUTO defeats the purpose of selecting AUTO. Why select auto if you really want manual ? get it ? |

Unless the windows need to be defrosted, I leave mine on AUTO. No need to touch anything when you start it up; it stays where you last set it. You can also change the fan intensity by heating AUTO multiple times (at least on my 09 iDrive model).

I think that has to do with the REST button being replaced by 'ALL' on the LCI models

I don't know; I recall people that were not happy about it being gone, people said it was still an option just requires a few buttons to activate, but looking at the 2011 owners manual online I don't see anything about it.
=/ sorry

I leave mine on auto all year. In the winter I set the temp to 20-21 celcius and in the summer I turn it down to 19 or so.
In the winter I turn on the heated seats and steering wheel for a few minutes. I'm always comfy. Last edited by ceb; 01-05-2011 at 09:29 PM.. Reason: fixed typo |

Mines on 68 Auto year round. It will cool when its hot and warm when its cold. Although sometimes I need to hit MAX AC for it to really get going on hot days.

I've done that for 13 years on my Nissan, and 4 years on my 335....imho AUTO is pointless on any car. We are not talking about sophisticated electronics like the thermostat in a data center. I notice that when riding in other peoples' cars, they almost always have their climate control on auto. And they wonder why they're getting 15 mpg in the fall when it's 65F outside....

Personally can't see what is better than the full 'auto' function set at your desired temperature.
Are we meaning the chiller/compressor function here, when users want to switch it off? Or do you just not like an auto system for some reason? I run 'auto' all year round, after all it is climate control, fastest at doing any function. But on cool dry days may push the snowflake button, to switch that part off, leaving auto doing its job. But with our modern variable output compressors, there is little to gain over leaving it running. HighlandPete |
