Thumbs up Interested in a 5 series iDrive Control Knob for your 3 series? **Group Buy**

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Last June I setup a group buy for a modified 5 series iDrive knob that fits the 3 series iDrive knob control unit and considering the E90post community has grown quite a bit since that time I figured I'd make a post and see if any of the new members are interested in getting one for their car that missed the GB last time around. This knob will fit both the E90 and E92 including the following models: 325i, 328i, 330i, 335i (and all xi cars of those models). Details are the same as last time:

For this price, you'd have to send me your existing iDrive knob so that I can make the modification and I can have the modified knob ready and on its way back to you within 2 days. Otherwise, if you'd rather not send me your current iDrive knob the price would be $170 ($35 extra) and I could have the knob on its way to you within 4 days (takes 2 days after ordering from BMW). The advantages of a 5er knob over the 3 series knob is: better looks, lower profile design, better feel, and a style that will really set off the look of your interior (as you can see in the picture below)

For more info, see this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23109

As you can see, the job I do is superb and looks factory installed.

The profit I'd be making is minimal so I need at least 5 people to do this if I'm going to put in the time and effort to get these knobs made. Considering (as far as I know) I'm the first in BMW history to make this modification, those of you who buy a knob will have the privilege of knowing your one of only a handful in the world with this modification.

I'm in for the $170 knob (I don't yet have my car, so I can't send you my "old" one lol). Is it difficult to pop off?

Is the 2007 E90/92 knob different from the older ones?

Hmm.. I just noticed the 328i knob pictured has rubber around the grip.. I could have sworn it wasn't like that on the one I sat in on the dealer's lot though.

Can anyone confirm? I may back out if it does have rubber on the sides, which is what I wanted most. The leather top does look nice, but not sure I can justify $170 for it..

Not at all. Just pull up on your current one with some force, it will pop right off. Then place the one I'm selling over the same spot and push down tight. Very easy install.

Yes, the iDrive knob in the 328i and 335i has rubber around the middle side. Let me know if you still are in for the group buy. Keep in mind, the material BMW uses on the knob in the 328i and 335i is very prone to fingerprints. If you can live with the fingerprints or don't mind wiping them off all the time, then more power to you. Otherwise, the 5er knob I'm selling is fingerprint less at all times, and as sani said from the last group buy "...everytime I get in my car, I just ... touch my new knob and it feels like a tit. Well not really. But you get the point."

Ok, I must have remembered wrong then. Really, that's the big thing for me, though -- without the rubber in the sides, I could easily see my hand slipping off of it in Florida summers..

Well.. shoot. Honestly, I wish I had some time with the factory knob. It's hard to decide whether or not I'll be happy with it with basically no experience.. fingerprints will probably bother me, but it's hard to say if $170 is worth it to me to prevent that.

I assume you'll be waiting until you have 10 signed up to start production, yes? If so, would you mind if I slept on it? Might even go to the dealer and have a second look at the 3er knob, and check the 5er knob for comparison.

hey bmwexecutive, here is a teaser for you. can you make the knob with terra, grey, coral red, and beige to match the leather interior. I see that you have black leather knob but not sure if you have other color combo. Myabe you already been asked this many years ago with the original gb but it's been a while so i thought i ask.

I suppose I could but the cost would probably outweigh the benefit.

Well, we've already got two. Maybe three. So as long as it takes to get 5 people.

As I said, it wouldn't be cost effective. In reality, I would probably have to charge an extra $100 for matching leather tops.

Well, I had a look at both.. and to be honest, I just don't think I dislike the OEM 328i knob enough to warrant the purchase.. kind of been spending too much money lately anyway lol

It does look fantastic, though!
