Seat memory

Is it just mine or if you slightly adjust seat and want to put it back the way it used to be, do you need to push "1" button until its done? Or is it supposed to be one push and it will set it back automatically?

IIRC, you need to hold it if the engine is running, otherwise it is one push.

If the door is open (and key is not in), the one push does it. If the door is closed or if the key is in, you have to hold it as it's a safety feature. You don't want your girlfriend's super-close-to-the-airbag setting being enabled while you're driving and you try to stop it. Could cause an accident.

Right. I can tell you that Audi and Lexus work the same way.

Thanks. I always wondered about that. I have two 328i's and they always differed between cars and between my wife and I. This now makes sense to me!

This is great...those memory buttons have confused me more than any other button in any of my cars EVER. I always end up holding it was just too lazy to look in the manual.

I still get some weird indications sometimes where it almost seems like the car doesnt remember my settings or resets to all the way forward or all the way back for 1 and 2 respectively.

Good to know about the door being open or closed and car on vs off and P vs D.

Okay, a new question about seat memory: does each key fob remember two positions OR is each position (1 and 2) associated with each of the fobs (1 and 2)?

Each fob can have both 1 and 2 memory positions assigned to it, and in addition they can have a third (temporary) assigned one to it. The temporary one is just the current seating position until a preset is pressed or the other fob is used. This is useful if, say, you have your two driving positions preset and you lend your car to your friend to drive for the week. He can adjust everything as needed (but DON'T save it to a preset) and the car won't adjust his position as long as that fob is used and no presets are pressed. This way he gets the seat/mirrors where he needs them without wiping out your presets.

ohhhhhhhhhh, now i get it. I got pissed at the car for doing this, but now i know it only wants me to be safe <3

While we are on the subject on seat memory, is the side mirror position connected with the seat memory?
