128i loaner tonight
Pros:
Great exhaust note (noticably louder than sedan from inside) Sporty feel of RWD, a nice change from AWD Feels light and nimble Exterior styling Cons: Two doors are a no-go because I usually have 3-4 passengers Not as practical (If it snows, I am screwed) Interior is not as nice as sedan Conclusion: In my case, not practical enough for a DD. But really fun to drive for the week! For those that have driven it, what do you think about the 128 compared to the 328?

Lol, I look at 4 door loaners the other way! Too many doors, too easy to give people rides

Been wanting to test one out since my girl is interested in purchasing one, in the near future. I think I will be ok especially with the doors and space. Once you go coupe, there's no going back

Bummer, I got both a hardtop and a convertible 128i as loaners. Very poor. Of all the cars I liked the new X5 the best. For whatever reason, the 328 E92 x-drive the 2nd best, but it burned a lot of fuel, had 40 miles when I got it...

NEw cars don't get good mpg.
When I had a 530 and went to my E60 site the indignity of driving a 3 series was similar to those who report driving a non sport, non-Turbo 3 series loaner and wonder why any owner of such a vehicle even bothers to grace the planet. The quality of interiors in the 3 is not up to the 5. The 1 is not up to the level of the 3. I on the other hand thought the 3 series was great fun and sought out a Sport package to test drive and liked it better than the 530i. Don't get me wrong, it was a great car! I recently drove a 1 series and thought the same. Great fun and for the money factor it was a blast. Im not going that small and I am very happy with what I have but the size of the 1 is the size of a three was 15 years ago and is mostly true to the original formula. 3 series were not luxury cars as they are now. They were small and lightweight with small displacement engines. IM sure the next 3 will continue to bloat. The 1 series will fill in the demand left behind. Then the 1 series will get bigger and in 10 years we'll have a new 1/2 series! |

Was it AT or MT?
In my opinion, the 1-series w/ Sport, and w/out Nav, has one of the best, most timeless interiors in BMW's entire fleet (it's simple--I like that). My E91's interior is just OK (too many different materials, and why the hell isn't the dash driver-focused like previous versions?). For a second car, I am seriously considering a 128i 6MT w/ ZSP (and leather, moonroof, and anti-theft--that's all I require!). The 1-series drives and feels more like older, more agile 3-series (cross between an E30 and E46, sort of like a modern E36). However, given that I'm paying $7 per gallon for gas, I'll probably go with an EU SPEC 123d (Coupe)--Diesel's about 25% cheaper here and the 123d gets up around 45MPG... |

A 128i goes great in the snow if you install winter tires.

This thread sums it up nicely: Two doors does not work for me because I usually am driving with 3 passengers. For someone who drives the majority of the time alone, or with one passenger, the coupe is not a con. Quote:
I'm not going to add winters though - its a loaner

The exhaust note is so much sweeter than the 3. Like there is a considerable difference. Is this because its a coupe? Or because its a 1? Sounds better than the PE for the 3 IMO!

I think most people under estimated the E82 128i performance, I had both cars in sport package and my E82 handle better than E90, it's a great DD car the only bad thing is had a small gas tank other than I don't have any complain about this vehicle.
