Rear View Mirror question

I thought that the compass in the mirror was part of the premium pkg. I have an '11 Touring with pretty much every pkg option but "sport" and while the mirror has auto dimming and the homelink, I had thought it should also have the compass but it doesn't. Is the compass in the mirror a stand-alone option?

I know it is not stand alone but not sure which package it comes with.

In the US, the compass is part of the ZPP

Just checked the BMW.ca web site and the compass mirror is supposed to come with the Premium Pkg (unless for some reason it is "de-selected" if you get the Nav)

My '09 has nav and it also has the compass mirror. Maybe they removed it when ordering nav going forward

I checked with the dealer. While it is still part of the Premium Pkg, the compass mirror gets deleted when you select Nav.

This is off topic and so I apologize, but I hate the auto-dimming. I want to look behind me to see what's there (usually that means cops, but sometimes it means family following me) and all I can see are some dim outlines of headlights

Quoting from another thread:

The autodimming activates when the front sensor sees darkness and the rear sensor sees light (i.e. it is dark outside and a car with its headlights on is behind you). Covering the rear sensor, as I recommended, means that the mirror never sees lights behind you and as a result does not dim. Make sure you use black tape so no light gets through to the sensor.
As for this thread, I suppose it sucks that they remove the mirror compass if you get nav, but IMO it's not that great a loss. I never use the mirror compass. Mine is there only so the kids in the back seat can yell out "we're going north!" or "we're going southeast!" or whatever from time to time.

I think you can put tape over the sensors and it will prevent the mirror from auto dimming. There's a thread about it.
