Pathway Lighting Doesn't Work
Just brought home my new 2011 328 xDrive Touring (a more fulsome report later on) and while I have set the pathway lighting in the iDrive settings to 40 secs, and I pull on the high beam stalk after I shut off the car, the lights flash for a second, but do not stay on. This worked fine on my '02 325Xi, and it is supposed to work on the '11 Touring but for some reason, the lights don't stay on and "light up the path" to my house.
Any thoughts? |

depends on your setting; for me, if my light switch is set to auto, pathway works
if its not set to auto...then the car ignition has to be completely off...its weird actually. |

Press the stop button a second time then the pathway lighting will work.

I assumed the OP had the fob out and then was trying to activate the pathway lighting. |

don't just turn the engine off when you stop the car. You have to push the start button twice to fully shut off the car. Then you can activate pathway lighting with one pull of the high beam stalk.

No. If you push the button ONCE and hold it a second or so it will turn off completely and you do not need to push it twice. |

Did not know. I never shut my car off all the way with the button though. I like having my music going as I may be unloading my car or whatever so I just let the locking mechanism fully shutdown my car.

Given that I am new to the whole comfort access thing, I still feel weird pressing the button once to turn off the car, but seeing the lights on, radio playing etc. I like the idea of pressing the start / stop button a second time to then turn off everything and then pulling the stalk to activate the pathway lighting. I didn't realize that I could press and hold the Start / Stop button and that has the same effect as pressing it 2x.
Thanx. |

Some of the advice here should be added to the "Things you didn't know about your 3 series" thread.

Ok, I was embarrassed to ask before but I'll bite. I have looked everywhere for the "Things you didn't know about your 3 series" thread and I can't find it! (I have had a 3 series since 2002 but I am sure there is lots I still don't know. )

For you CA peeps just hold the stop button for 2 or 3 secs, it powers the car right down. Then you can push or pull (it's a pull for my car) on the stalk to turn on the pathway lighting. |
