e90 335i flaws
hello all
ive been lurking here for about 4 weeks now, i recently go into a accident with my previous car (97 nissan 240sx) and decided rather then fix it id cut my losses and look into a new car. i have my eye on a 07 e90 335i 6mt, it has 58k all stock, it has dealer records up to 50k. i was wondering what are some common issues with these cars? what things fail? what items wear quickly? is their noises i should be aware of? How does the clutchs hold up on these cars? so far the only thing bad i can see is the hpfp issue which is warranty by the dealer so its not to big of an issue. this car has no warranty and i dont plan on taking and extended one. i plan on modify this lightly untill i can get another 240sx to make my fun car. so im just looking for a clean reliable platform for a daily.. im pretty car savy so im just looking for basic issues that i should look for when looking/test driving a e90 335i. thanks |

and some of us have had the wastegate rattle, if you don't have a warranty that one can be costly to fix, as they'll have to replace both turbos.

58K with no CPO or extended warranty, I would stay away. If you really want a reliable DD, get a nicely equipped 328 with a CPO warranty.

Merely a suggestion - call up a BMW dealership and have them run the VIN#. Have them provide you the service records and confirm the CPO certification is valid. You could also find out if the car has extended maintenance.

If the car was previously sold as a CPO, I would assume they will sell it as a CPO again. I'm not sure how it works, but the next time you deal with them ask about it. Good luck.

Not sure if it's common, but here's my list:
3 x HPFP VANOS solenoid replaced VANOS exhaust camshaft replaced Intake Bearing Ledge replaced Tank Leakage Pump replaced Camshaft replaced (camshaft hook ring seals worn grooves in camshaft bearing ledges) Window regulators (1 for the driver, 2 times for the passenger) Brake squeal (common problem b/c of the brake sensors/pads rubbing) Charge air pressure sensor fouled w/ oil Vacuum Tank for Waste Gate Control replaced (was broken somehow from previous non-related repairs) Interior panels (peeling occurs in certain parts like the door, center and steering wheel trim) Mechatronics Sleeve/seal replaced (Transmission) Control Arm Bushings replaced (they're hydraulic) Battery after nearly three years of service Sounds bad but the car has been pretty reliable other than that. Good luck if you're still considering...

Mine's an 07. So far, the only thing that went bad, since day 1, was one coilpack, which they replaced all six, wastegates rattle, which they replaced both turbos, muffler valve rattle, they replaced the muffler and the HPFP recalls. Other than that, nothing really broke down and let me stranded. I complained about noises and they replaced.
Also, I complained about clutch chatter, which is normal, and they replace my transmission. Clutch chatter is still there..... LOL If all of the above parts were replaced on the car, they were most prolly replaced with the newer parts so you shouldn't have a problem. |

I wouldn't get a 335 without some kind of warranty. One thing wrong and it could be $1000+, easy. Not saying it's unreliable, but repair could be costly if paid out of your own pocket.
