2008 335 vs 535 differences

What are the drivetrain differences between these two? Will piggy backs/down pipes etc for the 335 work on the 535? Is the auto tranny and final drive the same?

Also, what is the weight difference?

You really should test drive one.

I test drove the new 535, and its not the same thing as the 335i -- 335 is more of a nimble, agile, semi-tossable car.

The 535 is a proper cruiser, mid-level exec car not meant to be tossed around. Its a good cruiser. Its also very heavy, and the x35 engine is bare minimum in that chassis, its certainly not zippy or fast like the 335i. The sensation of speed is muted.

I had a similiar question about this. If one was to make all the upgrades(JB3, DPs, intake, etc.) to a 535 that can be made to the 335 would they see the same gains. Some members make enough power in a 335 to beat an M3 in a straight line. So if the same things were done to a 535 would it be comparable to an M5 or other more powerful stock cars?

Not the 535, but the 550. And even that is a bit of a stretch in order to beat the M5

Are there any cheap tunes for the 550 tho that would get it there. To make the quesiton easier, What cars would be most comparable power and size wise to a heavily modded 535?

I already have a M car on r comps for the turns.

I'm looking for a daily driver with straight line performance.

Anyone know the weight differnce?

If you are talking about older 535(not F) then 0-60 times are almost identical
and the car can be tossed and abused almost the same way as 335.

Same engine, so most of the same things will work; but 535i's are really different. Wont ever be as fast as a 335i.

As one who's owned both, I agree with your words completely.

That isn't exactly accurate. There's 99 pounds difference between a 535i and 335i. Aluminum was more extensively used in the 5 than the 3.

335i auto = 3605
535 auto = 3704

Sensation of speed is muted more because of wheelbase.
Do a drag and the 335i will win by a nose to half a car length.

Everything said here resembles everything I would have said. You really may want to look into a 550i. A really good friend of mine had one and to say it's a blast and a beast of a car is an understatement. That V8 is an absolute thing of beauty. I would LOVE to get into a 550i to be completely honest with you...

Had a 550 w/ M Sport, got rid of that and got the 535xi SW (6mt) and a 335xi (AT). As others have said they really are different and not just the size, weight etc. The motor feels totally different in the 535, even with the manual tranny it feels nowhere near the same. Piggybacks, JB+ etc are compatible. As for the 550 vs 535, well if you look at forum banter there are a lot of comparisons but coming from someone whose owned both, the 550 was a LOT more fun to drive. My opinion.

I would love to see someone make a 535i that's faster than the 335i's. But tuned 535 vs tuned 335, the 335 will win.
