Dashboard Trim

Has anyone removed the dash trim yet, I want to wire in my sat nav and have always popped off the trim and hid the wiring. A bit scared to just do it incase I break something. Didnt order BMW nav as it cant do Speed Cameras also a tight yorkshireman, it was a choice between Msport and satnav went for the sport.

No but very interested in the process! Please provide pics when you eventually get round to doing this!

Out of interest what sort of Satnav do you want to mount? I hear Tomtom have some "fixed" mounts available from the tomtom online store...

I have had an e60 and an e61 and in both cases I attached a garmin under the I drive cowl at the side of the I drive just using the stick on disc and the normal mount. It worked fantastic as I just unclipped the dash trim and ran all the cables behind it just leaving the power connector sticking out. I even hid all the traffic TMC transmit stuff behind as well.
I had a 740d as a loaner for a week and just couldn't live with the BMW professional NAV, I got a speeding ticket and just couldn't stand the lack of 7 digit postcode so Ive ordered a brodit mount and will attach the gamin again at the side of the I drive. Yet again I will be able to multi task making a call whilst still looking at my NAV.
Will post some pics.

Not having post codes and speed cameras is a right pain in the BMW system. For speed cams I bought TrackStar that alerts you to them via a beep in the car, its not perfect but its pretty damn good.

Just mounted my new Garmin NAV next to the I drive, I just gently pulled off the aluminium trim and hid all the wires. It's great unit 1490tv £200 for bigger 5" screen full European maps, speed cameras, traffic and yes a digital tv tuner. I saved nearly £3000 on. Bmws price and I can do NAV and make a call on The bluetooth whilst still checking the speed cams. I just bought a brodit small mount for the Garmin it's the dogs. Will post pics when I can

Would love to see how you did this mate. I have not got the funds for BMW sat nav. Got a TomTom Go 750 but will swap it for any make that works well.

Rob Fin, can you post some pics of your Garmin mounted - I am thinking about doing exactly the same with the same unit!

Why do people keep saying you cannot do postcodes in the media pro system. Mine does, was it only added after a certain build date or something? I assumed they all did that now? Obviously not I guess, surely it just software that can be updated in the nav unit?

It was - originally the SatNav in the iDrive (e.g. earlier e9x, e6x) was a bit crap and did not allow full postcode search. The Pro Nav in current cars allows full postcode search and is vastly improved.

Yeah I get that bit (I owned two e60's and an e92 all with nav pro) but surely people are referring only to the F10/11's? I assumed since day 1 all of these cars could do full postcode searches?

I thought so too. Anyway, I love my ProNav and I find it spot on when entering a destination simply by speaking to it, and it looks so cool.

I realise this thread is a bit old but just for anyone searching. The early Fxx series Sat Nav's were not capable of the full 7 digit post codes. Anything from March 2011 should definitely have full 7 digit post codes. UK dealers quote about £330 to upgrade.
