Discovered different door moldings- strange
Happy New Year to all!
I discovered the most bizarre finding yesterday....I have a different door molding on one of my rear doors. I am the original owner of a 2006 330i with a premium package with black leather. I was cleaning yesterday and noticed that one of the door molding trim is cloth while the others are leather. The car has never been in an accident and has only been in the shop overnight for a windshield replacement and door actuator. All other repairs have been for routine maintenance and have lasted less than an hour. Has anyone heard of this out of the factory? This either happened in the factory, at the dealership when the door actuator was replaced or at the windshield replacement place. I see no motivation or incentive for a dealership or other repair place to swap out the interior, unless it was inadvertently damaged while in repair and the molding was swapped out without my notification. Take a look..... |

Was the door actuator the rear passenger side?
Your shop may have broke the door getting it off or something and replaced with wrong part #? |

Seen some weird things like that come from the factory - the big question is why did it take 4 years to notice?

Great questions.....
The door actuator issue involved the front driver's side door. The cloth trim is on the right rear side and has otherwise been untouched for approved repair/service. Never noticed because: A) I don't sit in the back seat and don't carry passengers in the back typically. B) Maybe it was symmetric until the door actuator/windshield services this year but it's not something I can easily prove. Talked with the dealership and they are in talks with BMW Customer Relations to see if I can get a good will swap. Will also talk with the windshield repair shop Monday. |

Most likely a factory error...but geez, have you never cleaned your interior before?

hahaha damn. Thats pretty hilarious. I couldn' tell you what any of my rear seat area looks like though. I've never even been a passenger in my own car, let alone tried shoehorning myself in the back.

Exactly, cloth was standard in European models but never for the US. I'm not even sure you can order cloth trim from US dealers. Probably a factory goof, but it's gonna be hard trying to get them to swap it out 4+ years later, haha.

I had something similar on my E30. One of the front reflectors was red, the other amber. Since they are the same size, I did not immediately notice. Had the dealer fix a few weeks later.
Funny thing about it was that it was a factory delivery in Munich. The delivery lady had arrived wearing gloves, equipped with a clip board - very impressive - wanted to make sure that everything was perfect - well not quite. It was still a fun experience. |

My shifter had some cracked trim.
The dealer replaced it, but ordered the wrong trim. It was brushed instead of smooth. When I sold the car, it still had the brushed piece. Could be the same situation with your car. -scheherazade |
