Need your opinions on 330i

Hey all,

New to the forum. I have been driving a Subaru WRX as a DD and a Corvette as my garage toy, but with a baby on the way I need to consolidate to one car. I've never driven a four door that handles like a BMW so I started looking at used (2007) 335i sedans.

I recently came upon a 2006 330i 6MT/Premium package/Cold weather package/47k miles that I can get for about $18,000. The car has a clean carfax (2 owner) but no remaining warranty. It does not appear to have the sport package as the wheels are 17". It has a couple very small door dings and a scratch or two, but for a 2006 it is a clean car in very nice shape.

The car handles great, and I really like the character of the NA straight six. I drove a 335i, and it was definitely faster, but I feel like for the price the 330i is a nice middle ground between 328 and 335, and it may have less maintenance issues in the future.

So... what do you guys think of this deal? I can spend the extra money and get a 335i (or even considered a 550i though I have not driven one yet), but I'm not sure it's worth it to me. I figure an 07 335i will run me about 22k.

Maintenance-wise, are they about the same? Is 47k miles too many?

Thanks guys (and gals)!

I have a 330 and its great, obviously the 550 would give u more room for your kid. But then again if your lookin to save money go for the 330 but another ~5k for the 335 for a lil more fun would be great

330i

I drove a 330i for 42k miles for 3 years (leased, returned now) - it is a great car and I don't see how you can go wrong with it. To me, it has the perfect balance of weight and power, as well as reliability. I still wish I had bought out the lease.

both cars are great, i'd recommend a 335i since you're use to the power of a z06 and might get bored with the 330i after a while. You can easily get the 335i to around 380hp while the 330i you can't really upgrade anything performance wise to get a lot of power out of it. Also you have a better chance of finding a 335i with warranty. Either way for both cars the sports package is a must! Good luck!

Does sports package drive markedly different? Do you guys think 18k is a good price on the 330?

It is area specific I guess. Around here, dealers are asking 20k+ for loaded 330i's with lots more miles than yours. I have driven a loaner 328i and I prefer the sport package 100%. My 330i sits lower, rides firmer (suspension/bigger wheels), best seats BMW has, more comfortable steering wheel.

I just bought a 330i very similar to what you describe. 2006, 6MT, premium pack, 40k miles, for $19k. The only warranty was 3 month/3600 miles. I bought it off a dealer lot here in Pittsburgh. So far, so good. Then I bought a Tischer donut. I am really happy so far.

The 330i is a fantastic car, NA engine sounds better than the N54/55 and has better throttle response - it is slower but more than makes up for this in character and reliability - go for it!
