Accidents! They aren't fun but the 335 did great.
Well, after owning my 09 335xi with 16k miles on the odometer for about 3 months I got into an accident courtesy of a Nissan Versa. Traveling down a semi-highway, this Versa in oncoming traffic decides it can make the left across traffic and cuts right in front of me at the last second. I had no chance to stop and tried swerving to the left a little bit but didn't have enough time.
Either I was able to stop and he hit me and swiped his car along mine or I was able to slow down a lot and made impact with his front passenger side bumper/tire with my front passenger side bumper/tire. It appears my entire tire got pushed back and into the engine compartment. Fluids spewed everywhere onto the road and my front airbags deployed while his front and side airbags went off. I have two witnesses who both said it was blatant the other guy was at fault and cut across the highway at the last second. I had one passenger in the car and we both felt fine at first but the other driver was probably going close to 40/50 mph and now we're feeling a little sore as the hours go by, it's kind of strange. Neither of us have ever been in an accident so we might make a trip to the ER tomorrow morning if we're feeling worse. My adjuster won't be able to make it out to see the car till Monday because of the holiday so I guess I'll have to wait till Monday and see what happens. Things work in mysterious way, just thankful everyone is safe. Last edited by pits200; 12-31-2010 at 09:01 AM.. |

Was a police report filed? Was the other driver cited?
It is imperative that you see a doctor as soon as possible and get any injuries (including seatbelt bruising) documented. Don't just write it off as "a little bruise that'll go away in a few days." Ask for bodyshop recommendations in your regional forums. Good luck and keep us posted. Don't be afraid to ask questions. |

I apologize, he was heading north and I was heading south. I was in the left south lane and he was in the left north lane. There is an arrow going his way but once our light turns green going our way, their arrow ceases and we have the right-a-way vs the their left turn.
He tried beating the arrow (which was not an arrow anymore for about 4-5 seconds) and obviously it didn't work as he cut in front of my car. I tried swerving to the left a little to buy a few feet but if I went too far I'd end up in oncoming traffic. That is why the impact isn't straight on with my vehicle because I was able to slightly change the impact angle by swerving. As for the injuries, we are aware of delayed effects of back/shoulder/neck problems so we will give it till tomorrow morning and re-evaluate the situation. |

Op, Go to the ER . In Nj, i know you dont pay anything because any injuries acquired because of a car accident are paid for by our insurance.
Depending on how you were hit, you may have deeper damage then you think, trust me on this, after a few days you'll notice your back REALLY hurts. For comparison, take a look at my thread on M3forum involving the accident i had on October 29th. Like you, the other driver was an idiot and ended up totalling my car. http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=340517 I now have to see a chiropractor 3 times a week, Mri's , Xray-s, ETC.. and may have nerve damage ( waiting to see my neurologist in the next week or 2 ). 2 Months later..my back still hurts and i cant do any strenous exercises, lift anything, for fear of pain . Glad your safe. |

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. But no worries, Im obviously okay so I guess it's a legit question. Hey, maybe he wants to buy my slightly chipped rim, only a quarter of it is missing.

Im not to sure what part of Pittsburgh you're familiar with Twin but this happened at the crossroads of rt 88 & rt 51. There is that 45 degree left hand turn heading towards Pittsburgh on 51. The guy just made a stupid decision and misjudged. |

Sometimes we forget why we buy these cars. Most people get caught up in the performance numbers and completely forget about all the safety features that may save your life one day.
Glad you and your passenger made it out without serious injuries, testament to safety. |

If your 335i did great, I must say that I am even more impressed by the Versa. Understand that it was not quite a perpendicular collision, but even those inexpensive cars have curtains airbags that work... wow.

But I just took a deep breathe and told them to put it back down and bring a flatbed. Sometimes people just want the easy way out. |

Safety features that I noted are as follows:
1.) Sos rang about 10 seconds after the accident. A live operator was on the line within 20 seconds. 2.) Side mirror folded in 3.) Hazards were activated. 4.) All lights worked inside the car and headlights continued to work I can't really remember anything else at the moment but if I do I'll make sure to update. |
