Exclamation Engine Smoking

After about a fifteen minute drive, I pulled into my garage and shut off my engine. I opened the door to find smoke coming from the kidney grills. It smelt almost like chlorine. There weren't any warnings on the dash. Out of all my cars I had in my life this never happened to me! Has anyone else experienced this?

That's a new one for me. Has it been cleaned recently?

Well it was a service loaner with 6,000 miles on it, so maybe its confused on why it is not being hooned. It was washed the previous in the freezing cold. This will be interesting to see what will happen with this car! I just hope I don't need to use bmw assists because the people there aren't to bright!

??

don't worry about it..you didn't beat on it so if something goes wrong it's not your fault..also probably a bad idea to park it in your garage if it smells like chlorine...

Yes, of course I pulled the car back onto my driveway. But now I have bigger problems because my kids want to drive! This is going to be a terrific day!

I came to the conclusion that must have been the cause. Im sure there was still moisture in the engine bay and it froze over and after driving for a little bit it started to evaporate. Thank you everyone for the replies!

I understand what you are going through completely. When it first started I thought the cold water must have cracked my engine block and blah blah blah paranoid but that was completely impossible because my engine was cold.

My 2011 328xi is brand new with 400 miles. Some spirited driving in the snow on the way to work this morning. It was 15 degrees. Some snow on the hood. Some steam rising off the hood and some smoke coming out of kidneys when I parked. Happened with my 08. Normal for a new engine IME.
