Need help...335is or 08 M3?
As you can see from the title, I'm debating between buying a 2008 M3 or a new 335is, both being DCT.
I've heard the new M3's will be moving back to the six-cylinder engine in the near future, which is what the current 335is holds, and I do know the M3's engine would obviously be more powerful. However, I will definitely not be able to afford the cost of a new M3. I wish the 2012 1 series M would be available in DCT, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. I've also heard of some issues regarding the 08 M3 involving the DCT, such as the DCT lag. So what do you guys think? Anything I should know to better choose between the 335is or 08 M3? Any information will be helpful. |

M3. this may be a collection car someday because it will be the only v8 M3. you can get a 3 series bi turbo anytime, but v8 M3 won't be here soon. resale value is better with the M3 too and will last longer as it's NA.
and with all the HPFP issue, you may regret if you pick the 335 |

I was in the same situation a few months ago, and initially it was a no brainer to go with the M3, but I later changed my mind to the 335is. It really came down to what kind of driving you will be doing and what your priorities are. The conclusion I came up was
M3: You plan on tracking your car and you would rather have a real LSD, like the NA feel and the high RPM scream, the privilege of the M badge 335is: enjoy low end torque and the turbo response feel, rather mountain type zig-zag driving over tracking, likes lot of tech bells and whistles, and just being a brand spanking new car, possibility to easily chip tune it later down the road My priorities and what I enjoy lined up better with the 335is, but it really depends on what you enjoy. |

If you drive less than 15k miles per year, take the M3.
The 335 is a great long distance, many miles per year car. (I put about 3k miles per month on mine!)

M3 all the way, although make sure you inquire about your insurance rates. Mine had a considerable difference even with an excellent driving record, assuming it had to do with my age..?!?

Loving the responses, thanks everyone. Definitely making me lean more towards the M3 now. Being so, let's say I do go with the M3, anyone know the cost towards buying an extended warranty and if it would even be worth it?

Are you familiar with the E46 M3 GTR? It WAS a street legal version of the M3, obviously not in the US. I believe it ran a modified version of the E39 M5's V8; so no, the e92 wouldn't be the first, or the only M3 to have a v8.
