strange stop/start button issue
Hi all - just started experiencing an issue with the stop/start button on my 2010 328i. Used to be able to get in the car, press the brake, put the fob in the dash and then press the button and it would start. Now, for some reason, I do all that but no start...I remove the fob and try again...and then it starts.
Is there a "time limit" when the fob is in the car bit no start attempt is made...seems as if the sequence of the start procedure has been disrupted...or else I'm doing something new that has caused the problem.....all a bit confusing. Any thoughts? THanks, 442 |

Wait a minute...2010? Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Is your brake pedal very stiff when this happens? There have been reports of the brake booster leaking so badly that it became difficult to get the pedal to depress enough to defeat the anti-start switch.

Yes - it's the weirdest thing - when the fob is in, the brake pedal is sometimes really stiff and after I remove it and try again, the brake releases and the car starts...I've also been able to start the car when the brake pedal is really stiff...totally confused...running into problem with both fobs...doubt it is battery issues....very frustrating...!

strange stop/start button issue - brake booster issue
Hey guys - looks like it was the brake booster - has been at the dealer all week so hopefully will be returned to me on Monday. Someone said there was a TSB on this issue - anyone got that link or reference?
Thanks all, 442 |

Subscribing to this thread....same thing happened to me this morning.
I put the key in, pressed started...the engine turned over once then said "F this, I'm not doing it" and shut off. After that, the car would light up like it wanted to turn on, then just shut off without bothering the engine. I tried that 4 or 5 times, then sat there for a minute wondering what to do. I then tried it again and it came on. Still sounds like brake booster? |
