Rear ended someone! FML!!!!

Some jackass slammed his brakes in front of me in the middle of an intersection yesterday and I couldn't stop in time.. Fudged up my front bumper and kidney grills (hopefully thats all i messed up )...

I'm hoping this will be less than $500 so I can just pay cash and don't have to involve insurance. I don't want to risk my car taking a hit on its vehicle report.

Wow that's unfortunate, but from the picture it does not look bad.

I don't see any front light/fog light damage as well as no damage on the hood or front quarter panel. Mostly cosmetic on the bumper..Probably would cost around $400-$500 to rebuff and repaint...

I had the same thing happen last week, it put a nice size crack in the bumper and insurence told me to go ahead and replace the bumper So im replacing it with the Bmw perfomence Aerodynamic Kit. The bumber with out paint was $521.

Is the guy you hit trying to get any money from you or file an insurance claim?

You realize it's your fault. It doesn't matter why he slammed on his brakes you are suppose to keep a safe distance. Now get off my ass.

Did you give out your insurance info? If so, he can just contact your insurance without going through you.

It doesn't look to bad I don't think you need insurance go to a local shop. Try and go to a shop where friends go maybe you can get a deal.

Usually when you just walk into a random shop they try to rape you

The problem is that the guy he hit might file a claim. He didn't get his tele#. Thinking out loud, Maybe contact other guy's insurance to get contact info or to see if he filed a claim. I doubt they would give out other guy's personal info, but may tell you if he filed a claim.

It may not be 100% your fault, but it might depend on your state. I had a guy cut in front of me and slam on his brakes to make a right turn a few years back, and I hit him. I told my insurance what happened, and in the end the other guy was found 100% at fault, and I was refunded my $500 deductible after the case was closed.

yea i'm not willing to risk that - had a major injury accident a few years ago and it has been a B*@%$ trying to get insurance at a decent rate this will def make it go up.

Side note - Paid $1.95 to get the guys number from a public records website and got ahold of him. He is willing to settle this on the side.

Any advice on making sure he doesnt turn around and still file a claim after everythings taken care of?

Do you think having a front license plate would've minimized the impact? I'm guessing probably not. I'm debating on whether or not I should put a front license plate on for this very reason actualy. And man you need to be more careful, this city has way too many idiot drivers.
