So pissed, Jerk off window tinter took my car for a 9 mile joy ride

So i got my windshield tinted today with 30% and had a friend pick me up. When i left i checked my mileage cause i am weird like that it was 48238, 2 hours later he called to say it was ready

I could not leave work and told him it would be a minute, he says oh i can just bring it to you. at first i was like no way in hell is this. guy driving my car

but it made more sense and i said yes. So my car gets to me, i get in the car and right away i notice the clutch was really stiff and the pressure point was moved to the top of the pedal, like they do when they get hot and abused.

So next i look at the miles it was 48247. I was pissed. I called the guy, how far did you drive my car? Oh just straight down to your place, which is 1 mile away.

I said well why is there 9 miles more on my car, he goes well i dont know its about 8-9 miles down to your place right? I was about to explode at this point, i said no you fucking idiot you know its not 9 miles away, you live in this town, your shop is maybe a mile away.

All he says is, well i dont know why you think i drove you car i never joy ride peoples cars. I told him i was hanging up now before i say something i would regret, and i hung up the phone.

5 mintues later he calls me back, "dude i cant believe you think i took your car out and beat on it" i told him im not stupid and i always check my miles when i leave my cars places. he denied the entire thing and got mad at me for thinking he would do that to my car.

And he is the owner of the shop. I am still hella pissed off
What would you guys have done?

lol...what happens if something goes wrong with the tint you just paid for and need to go back to fix it? (assuming there is lifetime warranty on the tint)

Or would just just pay someone else to do it if the situation arises?

sucks though...I would have been pissed too. I guess dont let people drive your car from now on

Yea if he just took it for a 9 mile cruise i would not be as mad.

When the car comes back and the clutch engagment posisiton has moved all the way to the top of the pedal cause the car got the shit beat of it.

Im gonna be pist. the car is way harder to drive now, i cant even shift like i used to cause the point where the pedal engages is way way higher. before the clutch engaged at the bottom of the pedal by the floor

I took my E36 M3 to the strip one time when my clutch was getting towards the end of its recommended life (not dealer recommended; common sense recommended). Anyway, after a couple hard launches, it went completely. I know the feeling you're talking about. They showed me the clutch afterwards. It looked like someone put a t-shirt through a shredder.

Somewhat tangential, but just thought I'd share. If your engagement point really is up towards the top, he probably dumped the shit out of it a few times.

so if that 9 mile drive completely fried your clutch, then the rest of the miles (driven by you, i assume...) must have been driven starting from a stop in like 8th gear.

You can make a stock clutch go from golden to absolute shit in much less than 9 miles.

So do we think it would cause more damage to the clutch trying to beat on it with the dtc on and trying to make it burn out or with it off and burning out

I bet he was too stupid to even know how to turn it off

My clucth is so stiff now and hard to drive cause it's so close to the top of the pedal it's really hard to adapt

Sounds like you went to a real shitty tint shop. I know the tint shop I go to gets tons of nice cars so I wouldn't be worried about them fucking it up, but apparently your shop doesn't get nice cars too often. Or maybe they do get nice cars, and they fuck with all of them? Who knows.....

Either way, sorry to hear about that. I don't think there is any possible way you could prove that he fucked up your clutch, so I'd say we live and we learn, and move on.
