[My E90 Project] Cloth Sun Visors

In the U.S. market, even with the anthracite cloth headliner, BMW inexplicably puts in the vinyl sun visors. They look pretty cheap next to the cloth, and of course in the U.S. they are evidently mandated to have the airbag warning. I don't think that is why we have the vinyl ones, as I've heard that the M3 has come with cloth visors with the printing.

I tried to remove the airbag warning, because I do find it a bit distracting. The result was barely acceptable, and a bit of the latex material was pretty firmly deposited in the material cracks. So I went ahead and ordered the cloth ones, by way of Alekshop, for under $300. They look great.

They are completely self-contained replacement parts. The old ones unscrew, the electrical cable drops down, and you carefully unplug and substitute the new ones.

The only issues are that the screws are Torx, and the electrical plug is a little finicky. It's easy to mistake which end is the one that separates, and you should have some tiny screwdrivers to press on the right tab as you work it loose.

Yeah... Vinyl does look cheaper. Rubbing isopropyl alcohol can remove the airbag warning.

Three hundred dollars would have bought you a replacement battery.

While it looks nice, I'm not sure if no added functionality is worth $300

Even the 2011 M3's switched over to the cheap vinyl visors. And yes, of course they have the ugly airbag warning labels.

Cars may be an expensive habit but are probably a less expensive habit than multiple marriages or cocaine.

We should all drive 10 year old Camrys.
