335 convertible buffeting noise dealer wont fix cause tires are not perfect
My 2008 335 convertible new to me BMW has the classic 55 mph buffeting noise. Dealer says brand new yokohamas one is not perfectly round. Will not go any further on the repair. Is there a main 800 number at BMW to speak to someone there. I only have 1000 miles left on warranty and want this fixed. The service bulletin states the tire alignment will help in the overall effectiveness of the repair but does not say this is the repair.
http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B540408g.htm Can anyone help me in getting this work done before my warranty runs out. Thanks |

You'd think they should be able to do steps 2 and 3 (assuming there is an issue with the tires)?
Obviously there are 3 deficiencies that could cause the issue, so they should address the last 2. Try another dealer? |

Buffeting
Hey
I have the same problem on a newly purchased 2008 328i with approx 41,000 miles and am giving BMW dealership plus BMW NA a very hard time about it. They have tried four times over three weeks to fix it including the foam in the boot plus replacing part of the mechanism plus wheel balancing, sub frame adjustment etc. have you seen the note issued by BMW to the dealerships on how to fix this problem? I really do not understand how BMW can BS so many owners about this issue. Mine is certified and I bought it only a few months ago so I am expecting them to treplace it with similar if it cannot be fixed...waiting for BMW NA technician to inspect it next week. The dealer has categorically told me that if it cannot be fixed BMW will replace the vehicle. Don't let them push you around! |

I noted this on my e93 at about 60mph. This weekend I put on my 17s with snow tires v. the summer 18s (ZSP w/ new Bridgestone Potenza RE050A) and the noise went away on my car.

Longshot, but I would have asked if they had an "acceptable" set of wheels/tires lying around in the shop they could slap on - go for a quick ride with them to see if the car still did it without your shoes.

Has anyone seen problems after foam injections? Just wondering. By the way I asked if they could swap out my tires and wheels for others but they said it would not be possible

Mine just started this also - thought I was safe, 2008 model, 3 years old in 1 month and has 11k on it. Almost never drive with the top up except in the fall a little and it started doing it the other night, 50-65 or so, once up to 80 on the highway no issues - guess time to have the attempt the fix and see if it does the trick!
Good luck getting yours done!

Buffeting
They have done the foam in mine and no luck. If you read the BMW fix sheet it says the foam has to be very carefully applied in specific quantities in only parts of the boot lid, so it can easily be screwed up.
My suggestion to the guy with 1,000 miles left on warranty is drive their loaner until you know it is fixed. I worked out today that after 10 weeks of owning the car I have driven it for three. Have to say I do not miss the car when it has this sort of problem. Watch this space, waiting for BMW NA inspection and will let you know the outcome. |

I have taken it up with tire rack. But they won't send me another tire. They say It could have happened from driving. It didn't though. I only put a few hundred miles on them and only one failed. I am not giving up yet though. If anyone here has connections with tire rack and can help me let know. The tires were purchased through Car Connections in PA on September 25 or 27 th. That is were I bought my car. any help as to who I can speak with would help. I have the paperwork from bmws test as well

You might want to PM Gary@TireRack. TR sponsors the wheel/tire section here, and Gary posts there frequently.
