HELP HELP HELP Trade in ???

Guys im stuck!!! i bought a 2007 e92 328xi CPO in june AW with red it currently has 31k miles. Bought it for $29,999 OTD and $23,500 is left on my loan.

I just found a 2007 e92 335i AW with red with 37K miles but it was lemon lawed!!!!! This car is going for $27,999.

1. Should i even consider the trade?
2. How many problems am i looking to run into with the 335i?
3. How do i go about making this a straight trade no money involved?
4. How do i squeeze money out of the dealer?

KBB on my CPO is $31,900 but KBB on reg(not CPO) is $24,000
I know he will look up what i owe and say ok here is $24000 then want me to pay $3000 difference!!! how do i prevent this???

I have never traded in so not sure how this whole process works!!!
Any insight and help would be appreciated!!!
Thanks guys

Don't be naive. You won't be able to squeeze any money out of the dealership. Prepare to cut a big check instead. Not sure why you are willing to deal with lemoned car. Of course, most probably, it was lemoned for infamous HPFP, but you never know if it had any other problems. I suggest you stay with what you have...

+1. Trading cars every few months makes sense only if you have money to burn. You might consider paying down your loan so that in a couple of years, you have some real equity in your 328i. Then that would be the time to consider trading it in.

KBB says 24k doesn't mean the dealer will give you 24. The value is also affected by supply/demand and current market condition. You'll be lucky to get 20K.

of course i wouldnt buy the car if it was lemon lawed for something other than HPFP.
because as yes it does have HPFP problems everyone loves the car and engine otherwise... and as it was lemon lawed im sure it was fixed my now!!! Lemon law doesnt mean car is terrible just means bmw wouldnt figure out the problem within 3 tries???

KBB trade value is 20700 to 24400. They usually offer between below fair to good trade value, depending on condition. My guess would be 20-21k from a dealer. I think you can transfer CPO to a buyer, but if the dealer buys it, they would probably have to CPO it again, so wouldn't be of any value in a trade.
I'd go to carmax first and get a buy bid from them, it's good for a week i believe.

I think he's comparing good trade value vs CPO retail.

2007 335is can be picked up for under 30k. Not a chance you'll get anywhere near what you think you will.

Guys guys guys...You're not telling him what he wants to hear!

Dude, OP, you can totally get $32,000 out of your car, since you paid $29,999 out the door you should get $2,000 back as a nice down payment for the 335i. And I say, you only live once. Just because it was "lemon'ed" for the previous owner doesn't mean it's going to happen to you. And forget about anyone who says "look out for the resale value...You'd be lucky to be able to sell that 335i for more than $10,000 tomorrow since it's got 'buy-back' on the title". You can probably turn-around and sell that 335i on eBay or CraigsList for even more than the $32,000 you're getting for you CPO'ed 328Xi. Haven't you heard about the kid that bought himself a sports car by trading in his old cellphone on CL? That could be you. Do this a few more times and you'd be rockin' in a Ferrari 458 Italia.

If you live in fantasy land.

Thanks, I needed that.

I'm hoping the OP was just pulling our collective legs. Otherwise, I'll defer to Ron White's tag line.

i know i was comparing cpo retail and then reg trade in!!!! wouldnt find cpo trade in!!!
after more research i saw the 07 335i has tooooooo many problems!!! and looked more into them...
when i went into dealer and drove the car effin thing was slower than my 328!!! all of a sudden the 1/2 engine light came on!!! and from the readings i did before i went to dealer it means HPFP, wastegate, or finally turbos!!! So i walked away from the deal!!!
Which by the way was going to be a clean deal!!!
i was getting $24000 for my car

From who? If the dealer you were going to buy a car from offered you 24k in trade, they are probably just reducing the price of the car you were looking at. Unless you got a buy bid without another car involved, you have no real way of knowing what they were actually giving you for your car.
For example, I recently traded a Lincoln my mother-in-law had and was buying a new MB and a used Civic from different dealers at the same time.
I knew the owner at MB dealer and was getting a good, below invoice price, they offered 9k in trade for the Lincoln.
I was able to "get" almost 12k from the dealer I bought the Honda from, but I knew the price they wanted for the Civic was too high. They wouldn't lower the price on the Civic, but kept raising the trade value of the Lincoln until I was happy. There's no way there could be that much difference in the value of the Lincoln from one dealer to the other, it's just there way of manipulating prices in a two car deal.
If you had a buy bid from your car from a place like Carmax, that's more believable.

Nothing personal, but you sound like you are immature. You've owned your car for four months (you stated you bought it in June) and you want to trade it in.
Thanks for allowing me to take your example to my children (18 and 21) and explain to them what not to do. But I already know what their response will be and it is not favorable for you or your parents.

Heat of the moment buying is NEVER the way to go. Take your time, pay down the car and save for a 335 if you MUST have one.

Any deal that seems too good to be true ALWAYS is!

Well, I'll be honest... if someone does pay you $24k cash for your 328i, I'd say take it.

cause that's more than they're worth.

Buying a lemon means no warranty if I remember correctly.
You do not want a 335i without warranty.

You can find e90 335is for mid 20s to high 20s.

So, if you can get 24k cash, find a 335i for 27k private sale.
As long as it has warranty, and it's the original owner, he should be able to CPO it

If it's a private sale, just right 12k or something and you only have to pay tax on that amount, and pay the rest to him in cash/personal loan.

Or if you find a small private dealer, they may be able to do that too; pretty common practice.

but if you buy a car from a regular dealer at 27k, be ready for a good 3k in taxes.

Good luck..
