M3 Pricing

Curious what you guys think about the possibility of actually getting an E92 M3 with basically no options in the low 50K range. I would probably order late into the first year run after the initial craze. I guess I am wondering if a no option E92 M3 at 49K invoice and 53K delivered is a reality or a pipe dream.

most likely not. since the all the current 3 series have had a boost in their values, and a big boost with the 335 out. the new m3 will most likely be base mid 50's to 60's. and if a sedan version does come out, the coupe will still be more expensive.

all you can do is wait till the pricing comes out. dont bother asking dealers what the price will be, they won't know till you know.

The bump in HP and beefed up suspension alone may justify a base MRSP increase of 3-4K. IMHO

All indications point to a base in the mid 50s. Also keep in mind that the E90 M3 will have a higher base equipment level than the E46 though.

What I mean is that the E90 M3 will have at least a few features standard that were options on the E46.

I thought pricing was released already?? From what I saw invoice is 49K and destination is 53K. I even saw an options list. So far things like Nappa leather are not standard. My question was more along the lines of, could I actually just get a bare bones E92 M3 for 53K. Check http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13089 for the pricing that I saw... could be bogus I guess....

It hasn't. Someone made that up (even though they claim it's from BMW) I can assure you that final pricing hasn't been decided yet for the US.

As for your question. I'd say it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to get an M3 (even a stripped one) for 53k. All indications point to a higher base price than that.

I suspect the US base price (i.e. no options) will be between 50-55. But we are all just making educated guesses until we get an official announcement.

True, but some guesses are more educated than others. Here is how I arrived at mid 50s...

2003 M5 MSRP - 70,400
2003 540i 6SPD MSRP - 55,800

% Premium for E39 M5 vs E39 540i = 26%

2006 M5 MSRP - 81,200
2006 550I 6SPD MSRP - 58,500

% Premium for E60 M5 vs E60 550i = 38%

% Increase In Premium from 2003 to 2006, 31%

Now Let's apply that to the E92...

2007 335i MSRP - 40,600
On the E46 there was a 30% Premium for the M3, now let's compound that with a 31% Increase (based on E39 vs E60). This yields a total cost increase against the E92 of 39.3%. Apply that to the E92 base price yields 56,500.

There's another mathematical analysis on this forum but it doesn't take into account as many factors as mine (and mine was posted over a month earlier)

Im praying that it wont, but i think that markups similar in percentage to that of the M6 will be seen with this car. Hype equals bucks for BMW-NA, if one guy can't afford it, there will be ten guys in line behind him with twice as much money, ready to buy.

There aren't that many markets that will be able to get over sticker for these cars. If you're in one, shop elsewhere.

I thought I saw somewhere a published price list that put the MSRP in the low $50's. Optioned out it came out to high $50's to low $60's.

That was a bogus price list. Even listed "SMG III" as standard, even though the E92 M3 will have SMG IV which is a totally new SMG box.

I could guess that in the US it'll be around $60-70k, because it will really have a lot of very expensive stuff built into it by default, including the SMG IV. In Germany, probably around 65.000 euros, the E46 M3 was a little over 50.000e.

People need to understand that this will be the new top of the line M-model with lots of options never before seen in this car class, and many construction materials and methods that have never been used before anywhere, and some of the basic options will also be things that have never been done before on a production car, such as the clutchless upshifts of the SMG IV on the sportiest mode. And the 4L V8 that redlines at 9000rpm will alone cost a fortune to build as a reliable engine.

I expect the M3 base should be the lowest any1 has calculated in the 50's because we are getting it start without idrive etc.

The e9X M3 will not have any form of SMG. It will have a DCT transmission.

General forum consensus is that the price will be Mid-50s. There was a poll done a long time ago on this and most votes were in the 50-60 range.

An example of the base M3 having included some options into the MSRP that were optional on the e46 is automatic seats. There are no optional manual seats for the e9X M3. Further, the new M3 will have a carbon fiber roof, larger engine, and the car is bigger in overall size which means more base materials to make it. This all has been generalized into the 3-4k mark up over the e46. Since the e46 M3 MSRP was $48k and change, anything under $50k would be unreasonable.
