I want to upgrade my E91 sound system

Hi guys.
I have a 2007 E91 320D SE and want to upgrade the sound system. I've read a few posts about how poor the standard setup is, although I don't know exactly how many speakers I have or if they run from the stereo or an amp.

Can anyone recomend me a speaker/amp upgrade option and explain what HK is that I've seen quoted in a few posts on here.

You have the same year E91 that I do. Background doc:

So figure out which system you have (no hk in 2007 - you have Stereo, HiFi, or Logic 7, and I'm guessing Stereo).

I would suggest a 3-way system with Earthquake SWS8, Rainbow SL210.25, and a 4-channel amp (JL XD400.4 or Arc Mini 125.4 since they have balanced inputs, but the Alpine PDX 4-channels work too, just not as well with OEM outputs). Leave the rears stock, and figure out how to flatten the HU output if you have Stereo (over there, I think the dealer can recode the HU to HiFi even if you don't have HiFi now - if you DO have HiFi now, then ignore that suggestion, the HU output is already flat).

Buy the stock tweeter trim if you have Stereo and use it to mount the tweeters.

Perfect! Cheers

I think I have HiFi as mines an SE model, a step up from the base model with the BMW Proffesional radio (RAD2 I think).

Is it just a case of changng the front speakers & subs to more powerful ones of the same size and upgrading the amp?

Any HU can e with any system, so don't assume that you have a given audio system because of the head unit you have. You can have iDrive and still have base Stereo.

Do you have tweeters inboard of the side mirrors?

If the system is a HiFi system, yes. If it's a Stereo system, you need to get the HU into HiFi mode to make it that simple.

You should order a harness from Technic.
