My new car has arrived - first thoughts

So my new car finally arrived on Monday. Gave it it's first wash today
Spec is:

E91 330d M Sport Auto
Oyster Leather
Sun Protection Glass
Media Package
Heated seats
Xenons
Fine Brushed Alu trim
Bluetooth
Elec folding mirrors
Speakers - BMW Business
USB

My previous car was a pre-LCI 330d. Initial thoughts are; the engine is much better, very quiet. The media package is awesome if you like tech. The iPOD integration is brilliant, even the album art comes over and is displayed on screen and you have exactly the same functionality through iDRIVE as with the iPOD itself. The NAV is great, sending destinations straight to the car from Google maps is so so easy. Downsides, they have clearly saved money post-LCI. The sunblinds are now not the same material as the headlining, just cheap black plastic and the mirrors are just ugly. The hub caps are more substantial now and look like they wont suffer the bubbling that the old ones did. All in though I am well chuffed

Nice looking car. Looks like the estate version of mine

Do you find the estate feels heavier?

I am not an ex-Guardsman, but I personally think that considering the excellent efforts the Guards Regiments are making now and in the past for this country and for peace, I think your Avatar is not in the best of taste.
May I suggest you consider something a little less offensive?

It is a standard avatar with a military phrase for an gunner under my user name. I'm an ex serviceman with 25 years service behind me... believe me most serving and ex serving would not take offence.

Now back to the thread.

I was recently mugged by someone wielding a draper car jack almost identical to the one in your avatar. Would you mind removing it as it causes me great discomfort every time I see it.

Nice car, more pics! Esp of the ipod screens. I take it you have the 3D terrain maps too?

I must admit I'm not sure about the latest fashion for solid roof rails.

I am an ex gunner, I am also ex infantry & ex RM. You say 'most serving' would not take offence? Well let me tell you they will also have a streak of ignorance in them.
When I served in the infantry we had a few old soldiers who had served in the Regiment during the war and they had the utmost admiration for the Guards Regiments. Why? Because, whilst in the front line if you had Guards Regiments on your right & left flanks you were always secure. In the infantry that means a lot.
So please, you have no justification what so ever to ridicule the Guards, even in fun. They are amoungst the most reliable fighting soldiers the British Army have. To have the standards of the Guards you are amoungst the best, believe me.
So please do something about your avatar.

Excellent spec, congrats.

Does the ipod connect with a normal ipod to usb or do you still need the BMW Y cable? (usb +audio mini jack). What do you think of the rear luggage cover? I had problems with it 'popping-up' unexpectantly and a fix has now been introduced.

Thanks for the comments guys. It seems a bit better on the mpg front though still only has 200 miles on the clock so early days. The iPOD integration is what it should have been from the start ie just plug in the white iPOD lead into the socket under the armrest and done Taken some pics, feel free to laugh at the music collection

Yes it does 3D terrain and satellite image. You can also have a picture of your destination. Agree about the rails, means I now need new feet for my roof bars

Apologies to chris330D for having to respond to carjack and disturb his thread but it's for a good cause. I am doing something about my avatar see link to new thread (click here).

Car looks great and really like your colour combo.

This is my first car with the media integration you've mentioned and yes it's great, I love it, comes up just like you've shown in your pics, so easy to use and scroll around.

So Chris your ipod goes into the armrest then? Mine has a little tray in the top of the glovebox.........weren't you the gentleman who pointed out Billy Joel? Sorted him out now.

Edit, scrap that, it was another Chris!

Yes, there are two USB ports but the one in the glovebox is for data transfer only ie to and from the hard drive. Plugged the iPOD into it to see what would happen and the iPOD crashed It's not so bad under the armrest as the can cooler has now gone so no competition in what to put there. Have you got the Office functions to work with your phone? My BB only shares contacts.

Great car Chris.

I'd not noticed the solid roof rails till someone mentioned them!

Defo ally trim all the way, the piano black are just way too plasticky-cheap-hifi-store-style and scratch to buggery in few weeks.

Watch those blue jean stains on your lovely leather!!

I don't have that function as I believe you may need the high end Audi blueteeth for that but I've got the low end system which does the usual phone book stuff and voice control names assigned etc.

My Nokia E71 is compatible with the high end system but can't test it I'm afraid. I've not tried the other USB port yet though.
