Need to get a new splash shield for my 328xi 07.
The BMW dealership says I need to replace my engine splash shield and I got quoted for 450$. Which seemed a little much. I got the item numbers from them.
Main Splash Shield - 51757129341 Left Front Wheel Splash Shield - 51717059379 Problem is I dont wanna spend that and its 54 dollars if I buy the parts and bring them in, so I wanna make sure I can find the correct ones. For people not part smart like me, it has to be the shield that runs directly under neath the car, including the bumper part. and the left front tire wheel well. |

I'll assume you'd not try a DIY for this. The under engine cover is about $65 last time I bought one, and the wheel well splash shield is probably more like $100. Look the parts up at real OEM.com and then enter the p/n into getbmwparts.com to see the prices. I'd take the car to an independent BMW mechanic and have him replace the parts. $450 is outrageous. The parts can be replaced on a lift in probably 30 minutes. I've removed and reinstalled both. I wouldn't pay a mechanic more than 1 hour labor to replace both parts. The engine shield comes off in 2 minutes using an air ratchet and installs in about 3 minutes. The wheel well cover maybe will take 20 minutes to remove and replace (you need to remove the wheel to get it out. This is assuming all the fasteners are still intact and there is no underbody damage repair needed.
Good luck. |
