Old Man Wants a New Car
So my pop called me today saying he wanted to get another car. Something small, he said, that would be good for running errands and what not. He said he liked my car and would I take him to the car store to look at one like it. This from a 93 year old man who already owns two very nice cars: S Class and an Arnage. Seems he thinks those cars are too flashy for just him to be hopping out of at the usual locales one goes to just living a regular sort of life.
So, not that it matters much to him, but I wondered what folks would think of an old fella driving around in a 335is, which is what I'm going to suggest to him? FWIW, he accompanied me when I went to test drive the new 5er. We both drove a 550i, a 535i and a 335i. He actually preferred the 335, saying he could tell better what he and the car were doing and that made him feel safer driving it.

Well, truth is I like the 335is, but if that's the coupe he likes driving best, I guess that's what use he has for it.

Let the man test drive the 328, 335, and 335is. Just because he's 93 doesn't mean he doesn't want a performance car.
Not all old people want slow cars. Ever heard of Stirling Moss? lol

He is still an old man. Perhaps one day your folks are old you'll understand how they come to rely on your judgment about things. I was canvasing to for thoughts. Since yours are snide, I'm glad you refrained from sharing anything I might have misinterpreted as sincere.

Back to the original topic. Honestly, if I saw an old man hop out of a 335is, I would most likely think to myself, wow that guy is a bad ass, hes old and he has still retained his sense of style

At his age he should buy what he likes and the hell with what people think. (That should apply to all ages) Go with him to drive the cars and provide support and feedback to his views. It is a gift that he still has the interest and that he wants you involved and respects your views. Take that gift and run with it!
If I saw him get out of the 335is I would think good for him - I hope I am just like that if I get to be his age. |

On a serious note, he should drive whatever he likes. I wish my parents still had good taste in performance vehicles instead of their Ls 460, AND they are 30 years younger . Anyone over 90 and still wants to drive any sports oriented cars are badass in my book (provided they dont drive like shit) |

He should test drive an M3 DCT. The only thing I'd be concerned about for him with this car is the ride but other than that it sounds like he's the type of young guy who would enjoy and appreciate an M3... Oh, and BTW - I think the 335is is a fantastic idea too. I'd have him drive that right after or before the M3 and see what he likes better... |

Get your dad what he wants. Sounds like he wants the 335is. I think you're thinking a little too much into this image thing. I think it'll be a great DD for him. Tame when it needs to be but always ready to beast it.

let the man drive what he wants...doesn't matter what everyone thinks, if he likes it then go buy it. Let's be honest for a minute here, his years are numbered might as well enjoy it the way he wants to.

a 335is isnt a bad choice, it should be good. Its not like its designed like a lancer evolution or something.. then i would be kind of suspicious.
This one time though i saw quite an old man boosting past me as i was walking down the street in a modded Supra.

This may sound odd but I believe older drivers in general would be better off driving a 3-series than some of those big numb floaty cars that give a false sense of safety.
