Blackstone Lab Report, 335i, 820 miles

Here's my Blackstone post break-in oil analysis. The shop that took the sample did not follow the sampling instructions on running the car for at least 20 minutes, so I believe that's why the fuel level is high. I'll do another at 5K miles and make sure they follow the instructions!

Sorry, now it's up, the forum kept rejecting my file. Then I realized my scanner saw right through the black out of contact info.

The one number that stands out is the amount of fuel in the oil. I would expect that number to go down as the rings wear in, but does it also point to the fact that the 335s are running a bit rich?

Are the high metal levels (in parts per million) compared to the universal averages any cause for concern when the % insoluables was only 0.3 and less than 0.6% is indicated to be acceptable? That makes me wonder if any given high metal concentration matters much if that metal stays in solution, i.e. it seems that only insoluble metal precipitates would present a risk of damage to engine components.

For those people on this board recommend who recommend an oil change before the BMW scheduled one, do sdiver68's lab results support or contradict the early oil change theory?

The high metal levels are normal during break-in.

which is exactly why waiting 1 year or 12k miles for your first oil change is a great idea BMW

I do a heat cycle break-in, which is not manufacturers rec but not run it like you stole it either. Search for a prior post in which I explain my break in.

I want to repeat, the instructions were not properly followed when sampling the oil, so the fuel-in-oil was expected.
