euro dash pannel pocket? under headlight switch
searched but didnt find anything definitive. Is there a storage pocket under the headlight switch on euro e90s? Anyone installed this piece? It could be a great help to the limited storage we have now.

It is present on Euro e90s, but I think US safety legislation stops your cars having it in the States. All the best. Viv |

I think US cars don't have it, because of your safety regulations, which differ somewhat from those in Europe- maybe something to do with frontal impacts / minimising physical damage if your knees were to smash into the front console? Over here, nobody is likely to sue BMW if they knock their knees against the console in an accident! Viv |

I remember someone stating the reason the US doesn't have it was to do with knee protection.

cant tell if we need #12 from that as well? I would think so, because there is obviously no hole to accept the folding pocket piece...im only concerned that the dash hole piece is much larger than just the small piece below the headlight switch...

i deciphered the following: beige interiors: part # 51457141722 grey interiors: 51457141723 all others: 51457141721 unfortunately, my E90 sedan is still floating in the atlantic so i can't check if there is an easy to remove blank that this part will just fit into. anyone else care to take a pic or check it out? this would definitely be a great DIY. looking at Crown Automotive it looks like it is easily orderable for $46.35 (only looked up the grey part #).

I just took a look at my vehicle and it looks like the part that needs replacing is the entire dashboard frame. All because of a simple hole in the panel. And it isn't all that big of a hole, either.
If you look on RealOEM.com, select Main Group 51 and subgroup 30, Dashboard Mounting Parts. If I'm wrong, please, anyone, correct me. I'd like this feature as much as anyone else.

if its just a hole, I wouldnt mind cutting into the current piece, it wouldnt be all that hard, and the folding door piece, MIGHT conceal any cutting around the trim...
