when i open my trunk my car turns on...does yours?
I always leave my keys in my ignition when it is parked at my house. Whenever I open my trunk later, without doing anything with the key, the parking lights turn on and the radio turns on. What is interesting is that it won't do it immediately after I park my car, it usually must be parked and untouched for a few hours or more (usually the entire night). once the car is turned on, i can remove the key from the ignition because it isn't locked in and the car will remain on. the only way to turn it off is to push in the key as if you want to start it and then push it in again to have it release the key. Something else I have noticed is that I only think it does it in low light situations because the headlights always turn on and i don't recall a time when it did it in broad daylight. is this just my car?
also, whenever i open a door or trunk after the car has been sitting there for some time, there is a strange noise coming from under the car (like a motor or something). does anyone know what that is? |

^^ Probably one of the random electric motor "whirring" sounds that the car makes from time to time. I had the hood up once looking at the engine and the car whirred at me. Freaked me out. The car had been off for at least 20 minutes at the time. Sounded like it was adjusting the ventilation system.

The answer to your last question is probably the power amp. I know the sound you are referring to.

You must be the only one.
Why on earth do you leave your keys in your ignition? I hope you park it in a garage. Even so you should remove your key when not using the car. Ed

Actually, I don't have that problem, but I have the reverse... sometimes when I turn on the car, my trunk opens.
I know i'm not hitting the trunk button on the key fob... very strange. |

Arrowhead is beautifull, I spent much time there as a child. The best tasting tap water in the ENTIRE world, hands down.

LOL @ astra
I have comfort access and my car makes that sound if it has gone into deep sleep mode, when it senses the key as I approach, but before I touch any of the sensors. I think it is the electronics priming up to get ready to drive off. Previous threads on this matter have said it is the electronic fuel pump priming, which is at the rear of the car. The noise doesn't bothe me, it is like my car's little greeting every morning when I go to the garage and is part of the many little sounds and things it does as part of its start up process as I get into it and get ready to drive - ie steering wheel unlock, whirring of DVD as navigation boots etc before I press Start. Interesting your lights come on, have you got the "light the way home" setting on?

Uhhhh.... I'd REALLY re-think the idea of leaving the keys in the ignition. While IANAL, there is a legal concept called "attractive nuisance."
Google it. I'd say you need to be at least a little more worried about it than you are. |

I can't believe people care if he keeps his key in his car, especially in his own garage.
As far as the reference to the attractive nuisance doctrine... I disagree. The car is in his garage! How can this be an attractive nuisance? |

i live in a gated community and instead of making it safer, it just creates an attraction from the towns around us because everyone knows there alot of wealthy people living here. There was quite a commotion 2 months ago when someones brand new $130,000 Hummer H1 got stolen because the owner left the keys in the car. =/ it made my parents erect a giant gate for our driveway.

I thought attractive nuisance was when your supermodel date couldn't make good conversation or didn't put out.
