The kidney has to come off, you also need to sepperate the crome part from the plastic grill.
when you open the hood you will se 4 screws holding the top of the front, you need to take them off and then you carefully can pusch the front out so you can push out the top of the kidney, with a long screwdriver, then you can get your hand in and pop the rest out. Be carefull and you will get alot of scratches on your finger and hand :-) When you have seperated the crome part you sand it well and paint it. |

x1 black grill's
Hello,
I'm from belgium. I'm looking for full black grill's for my (black) X1. I did'nt find anything in shop's or on the web. So I think I'll paint the grill's. Is it still ok with the paint you have done ? ...no stone impact ? Do you paint all the grill's or only the chrome parts ? How do you remove the chrome before painting ? Which color do you use ? Thanks for your answer ! |

There is a thread in the X1 DIY section about some fella (jackxxon) who dismantled the black kidneys in order to paint them... silver !!
Very well done with some step-by-step pictures. (Maybe you guys should talk together and fedex each other your respective spare parts before engaging in front-end dismantling ? Just an idea...). http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415119 First you have to loosen the whole front end (4 screws), spread the grille apart and unclip the kidneys.
