Tint and Dealership Issues

I went through my dealership to get my new e92 tinted before I picked it up. I was assured through my sales consultant that the company they use does a great job and hasn't had trouble with the dot matrix because I was VERY hesitant about having it done.

I get the car and the tint looks like ASS over the dot matrix. I go to the dealership and they tell me to talk directly with the tinter (who I haven't spoken with yet). I go there and all the guy does is reapply pressure and send me on my way. I wait a week or so and it still looks like ASS. I go to the tinter again, get someone that actually speaks English (kind off), and get the line that it's the best we can do.

At this point, I'm pretty mad and I ask him to fix it or have all the tint removed from my car and my money back. He tells me to go to the dealer now and discuss with this him. I talk to the sales guy and he tells me I have to get with the tint place?! I told him I never spoke with the tint person directly before having this done, and he was my contact (who again, assured me it was going to be covered). The tinter told me if I had spoken with him directly, he would have warned it me it wasn't going to be covered properly. Now they want to charge me to have it taken off if I don't like it?! WTF?! I am disatisfied with the quality and they want me to pay to get it removed?! I want it removed AND my money back (as I think I should).

In short (well, not so short), I'm getting the run around from both guys. I want tint on the car, but I want it to look good over the dot matrix. I'd rather drive w/o tint and do my research to find someone that can do it.

What options do I have? Thanks for any help I can get.

When you paid the dealership for the tint, was the payment made to the dealership or the tint shop?

If it was paid tot he dealership, they need to re-imburse you.

yea, i agree. the dealership should be taking care of you, since they're the ones contracting the work out to another company to have the window tint done. try to talk to somebody else at the dealership and let them know you're not satisfied with the work done.

btw... to really solve the dot matrix problem, you need to find a tinter that will fill in the dot matrix with black paint or sand down the dot matrix, before actually applying the tint to the window.

The payment was made to the tint shop, but I had no direct contact with them until after the work was done. I feel like the dealership set me up with them, assured it me would be done to spec, and is now trying to wash their hands clean of this. I'm not a happy camper at all....

Tell the dealer that you will be contacting BMWNA directly and filing a complaint against the dealer and the SA, that should scare them enough to fix all your problems.

talk to bmw manager and tell him your situation.. If he does nothing about hearing your, get his name and his possition and ask to speak to someone higher than him (his manager). that's how you will get it resolved.

Worst comes to worst, i would go to the sales and tell him to get this resolved or i will beat his ass up for messing up my car. Then go to the tinter and watch him do it so they don't "misstakenly" scratch some parts of the interior. If he gives you problem, tell him to remove it or you will make him remove it.

That's it bro.

Are you in houston and was it momentum dealer? Back to the tint, The only person that I know that can do a good job of the e92 tint is Lance. Look his user name up and you will find a pic of his tint. Other have their car tint but it does not look anaywhere near Lance's work but not too bad. Lance is an exception in this case because he own a tint shop and have done tint before and he tint his own car so naturally, it looked perfect. Where as we ppl who have to rely on other to tint our car, you gonna have blemishes here and there. I do not see a photo of your tint so I am not sure what if it is really bad or decent. On some thread in the offtopic, look like a&& sound like very nice, some of the thread in the offtopic have some nice sweet a&&(es).

Could you pop up a photo for us to see. As far as money back, that is between you, the dealer, and the tint shop. Best of luck. This is the down side of owning a dot matrix e92.

when i had problems with my old car, and they kept giving me the run around i used the "let me talk to your bosses boss if nothing is resolved"... It worked perfect. Before that i had no problem asking the tech manager to step outside with me because i was going to rearange his nasal passage. He then shook like a little b#@ and refused... Now, he gives me hook ups when i need it. Alarm flash, free, car wash free, Loan date?... just gives me a loaner when i want. Forgot my license?... we have a copy it's all good. I was really upset though, and the guy kept telling me "we'll give you free carsh wash"... WTF is a free car wash if my car stoles, shakes over 50mph, doesn't start, keep getting check engine light, and i keep missing work to come in... They took the car and ordered me a new car...

Anyway that new car is sold and now i look foward to my e92!

Outsourcing vs. Dealer

My tint isn't all the way adhered around the dots. No one who isn't looking from 6" away ever notices it. I don't notice enough so that it bothers me. In fact, filling in the dots would bother me a lot more.

LOL. For real bro, you need to be very firm with them.. I know this is just a tint issue, but it's your car. You can an agreement and him telling you they do great in that area is a verbal agreement. You trusted in him and this is what you got. Tell them that what entitled him to make that comment? Because of that comment it made you feel secure about taking it their. You want your money back and you want them to take the tints off, or you will get an attorney and sue them, your not playing with a 15K car... Speak to his manager and go as high as you need to get it resolved now... Don't beat around the bush and keep rescheduleing you dates, that only wastes times and money (gas) for you to get their and more money(taking days out of work) and they don't repay you that... SO let them know and good luck... let us know bro

I'll take a picture of the tint today and post it. Gotta get back to working now so I'll probably call the sales guy tomorrow and demand to get the tint removed and money back; otherwise I want to speak with his manager about the issue (and keep escalating if it won't get resolved).

solution for tint. Mine looked like crap over the dot matrix.. cant help it. Cut the tint where the dots start..(ive seen it cut already on a friends e92) or get a roof spoiler. Depending how dark your tint is cuttin it will be noticeable. If you have 35% and higher than cut it. I have 5% limo and if i cut it.. it would be very noticeable. Im going to put a roof spoiler on!! Problem solved

I've heard very good comments on Lorenzo tints up in NY... I'm actually waiting on my sales rep to see if my car is comming in this week so i can go get it tinted this weeken. I can't schedule yet because i don't have my car. I've called them up and they told me they have a machine that will minimize the appearance of it a WHOLE lot. And when i go, they will have another 335i e92 next to mine to compare to see if i want to get it done their or not. If i do i will post pics of it that same day... and then a week after, and 2nd week after... We'll see.

I have a question...

I am picking up my 335 in a few weeks and I am planning on having it tinted. What exactly is the dot matrix and how do I make sure this tint job gets done correctly?

My thought too. Tell the CA you did the deal with him and you feel he mislead you while selling the tint. Mention how this experience isnt making for a satisfied customer and you are glad you still have the BMW survey to fill out. Your CA may begin to see your way when he realizes his marks will be 1's instead of 5's.

Of course after giving 1's you will need to find a new place to get serviced.

Yeah... I'm actually taking my car to another tint place different CA's of the same dealership (BMW of Dallas BTW) use. They tell me this isn't the first time they've had to look/fix tint jobs from the dealer's other source.

I'm going to be rational with my CA and just ask that if there other tinter can do a better job, they cover the cost of correcting it. I don't want to cause drama or be difficult; just get what I paid and asked for.

Thx everyone for the help! I'll take a snapshot of the back soon enough to post before and after pictures.

Above is the link to the photo album of the tint over the dot matrix. Please tell me how shitty this looks to confirm that I'm not crazy.

Below this: Be prepared for alot of SH*T from this point on.
----------------------------------------------------

I go to the dealer asking for his help with the tint. I tell him I'm not satisifed with the work, the dot matrix wasn't covered as I requested and as I had specifically asked about and would like my money back.

The CA goes on and on about how I'm the only person that has complained about this and that the tint is fine and noone will notice from a distance. I told him that when I paid the tint to cover the car including the dot matrix at least solid black if they couldn't cover it.

After maybe 10 minutes of us arguing back and forth, he basically shuts me down and says "There's nothing I can do for you. I'm just the middle man that facilitated the tint and any issues you have is with the tinter. I can put pressure for them to refund your money and remove the tint, but I can't guarantee it. The worst case is you file a claim with your credit card company to get your funds reimbursed - which you will win."

First off, he assured me they would tint or black out the dot matrix at my request. This wasn't done.

Second, why should the tinter be completely at fault for this when it was the dealer who recommended and took the car over there? I never even saw the tint shop until after I first complained and the CA immediately tells me to go talk with the tint shop.

By this point I said whatever, I'll come over to pick up my plates and talk with the tint shop myself. Either way this is getting handled and don't ever tell anyone the tint will cover the dot matrix (using the only method they use) without warning them. Basically, he lied to me and isn't doing anything to help me out. He got his commission and wants to be done with me...

Guys, am I wrong on this? I've been very reasonable about it all. All I want is to get what I paid for, otherwise I'd like a refund and will go do business elsewhere.

I was going to finish this off with the tint shop and never go back to that dealer (I'm already taking off their frame plates, key chain, etc) and go to their competitor. But, the more I think about it, I should take this up with my dealer, not the tinter.

I'm going to go calm down and watch some ESPN... Thx everyone for hearing me rant...

My sales guy assured me when i bought the car he would have all of the accessories installed and the tint done by the company they use (who is supposedly the best and he would get me a deal) by the end of the next day when I picked up the car. Well those all seems to go out the window when you have signed the papers. Two visits for accessory installs and a dent repair caused by thier svc. dept. later and I still did not have the windows tinted. They supposedly could not get an appontment. I had it done myself at a different place and was totally satisfied.

Just venting

That is terrible, man. I am sorry to hear that you are going through this.

Do you know if this is a common occurance? I dont want a POS tint job to make my brand new car look like sh*t.

Also, I have never even noticed this "Dot Matrix" before. What is the point of it?
