Rust on OEM Wheels!? - How do i remove this?

While I was washing the Z I noticed that on the inside of my rims, where the wheel meets the rotor, aka the wheel hub, it had rust on it.
How do I get rid of this?
Also, how do I clean the inside lip of the wheel? It is exteremly dirty, almost black!

Sonax is good I've read on other posts but i couldnt find anything to get rid of rust. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same thing on my rear hubs. I asked my service advisor about it and his response was that the hubs are cast iron and you will get surface rust on them. At the same time, they will never rust out. He also said that if you are living anywhere near the ocean, this is just a fact of life with a Z4.

I suppose you could take the wheel off, sand away the surface rust and carefully repaint the hub. But in all likelihood, you could end up needing to do that every 6 to 12 months.

There's a product called the Ace Powerstick that you attach onto a drill for brushing the inside of your wheels:

9 out of 10 dentists recommend it.

I'm guessing just use alot of Sonax on the inside of the rim and scrub really hard.

As for the rust, I could wire brush it off and possibly re-spray it with a protective paint? One that wont't rust perhaps?

Just cleaned my rusted wheel hubs off. Had to pull a tire for a flat. The wheel was rusted to the hub. Soaked it in WD40, kicked it from the back, came off. I then took a wire brush attachment for a cordless drill and cleaned off all the hubs. I coated the hubs with anti-seize compound before putting the rims back on.

I saw that turner motorsport was selling a product like what you described, it had a wire brush and anti-seize compound packaged togther.

My question is, did coating the hubs with that compound stop the rust from reforming?

I'm on the east coast and use a copper anti seize compound on hubs, wheel nuts/studs. Yes it does work.
