Curious - When did the 325i become the 328i...

...and what changes were made at that point?

Garage List
2011 BMW M3  [9.00]
2008 BMW 335i  [0.00]
2006 BMW 330i  [0.00]
1994 BMW 325i  [0.00]
when they refreshed the engines last september. 328 got a slight power boost over 325 (215hp to 235hp, or something like that) and 330 got a huge power boost with the 335's twin-turbo.

rebadging is argued to be only a marketing move for BMW as both engines are still 3L. some say they should have just added the "s" designation to original models instead of rebadging completely.

in 2007 there is only the 328 and 335 for the USA market.
There are minor engine updates in the 328, resulting in a 230 HP output from 215 HP in the 325.
The rest looks the same.

from a shallow spec standpoint, 230 still reads kind of low for the weight of the car.... 245 is more of a sweet spot.

no, it's not a detuned 330, the 328 engine is similar to the one used in the X3 3.0si, so it's more of a detuned x3 3.0si

I expect that you are correct, however our Hong Kong friend was probably alluding to the fact that in most other markets the 325 is in fact a full featured 2.5L inline 6
