Window Tint Fix It Ticket
Well...I was making a left turn onto La Cienega Saturday night in a bunch of traffic when a motorcycle cop pulled a U-turn and flashed his lights behind me. It took me forever to pull over because there were so many cars and I was all the way on the left hand side, but I found a driveway in between two stores to pull into so once I merged all the way to the right I pulled into the driveway.
The police officer came up to my window and told me that he had pulled me over for illegal window tint and no front license plate. I was polite and didn't put up a fuss because there was really nothing I could do. So he ended up giving me a fix it ticket for my window tint and front license plate and then drove off. After all that I sat and thought....was it really worth it for this cop to pull me over for that? I wasn't speeding or driving recklessly, my front windows aren't even that dark, they are a medium tint. I just thought it was completely rediculous. I could see if I were parked and he were giving me a parking ticket then, sure, why not...but to pull me over! Anyway, the ticket says I need to get it fixed and then have either a police officer or an authorized inspection/installation station agent sign the ticket. Do you guys know what exactly is an "authorized inspection/installation agent station"? Can I just take it to the place where I got the tint and get it signed? Just wondering if anyone in the LA area had any experience with this. I like my tint |

I don't think you need to have it fixed. You should just be able to pay the fine and that's it.
I used to live in century city and always got confused on which day was street cleaning. It alternates sides twic a week. Anyways, I used to get a parking ticket and no front plate everytime. Bitches i tell you! |

Both the plate and the tint are excuses to pull you over, I'd never draw that attention.

I thought that in most states tint/front plate wasn't a primary offense (They can pull you over for it). Guess I was wrong.

I agree that it's probably rare for someone to get pulled over for the reasons that you were pulled over. The majority of these fix it tickets are given in addition to another one (parking, speeding, etc). However, at the end of the day, the officer was well within his rights to do what he did.
Tough break, but hard to argue against.

How unfortunate, the more urban area you go the more infractions you will find. The rural country side is a bit more loose.

Stop by any local PD to have it signed if you fix things. Or pay the fines. Your decision. You can and might be pulled over frequently if you choose not to fix the situation by different jurisdictions.

I do agree that there is certainly an element of selective discrimination based on your car's look/make. I don't want holes in my front bumper, but I don't want to be hassled either, so I keep my plate on with 3M mounting tape. The 35% window tint also begs for a ticket, but that's the risk I'm willing to accept.
I saw a personally owned Bentley the other day with Limo tint. I wonder if that motorcycle cop would be as inclined to pull that over for a fix-it ticket. |

I went for 4 years without being hasseled by the man in OC or San Diego. Then moved into Playa Del Rey, and in first month the man (LAPD Pacific Division) pulled me over for the same infractions. No front license and illegal side tint. He pulled a quick u, just to bust me. I believe they use those infractions as a reason to pull you over, to run your plates. It gives them an excuse to snoop.

Yeah, just go to your local PD and have them check it out. Not sure if you can give it to the place you got your tints done to sign it, but an Inspection station is just the place you go every two years to get your car checked out and make sure it's legal to be driving on the roads and they slap a sticker on that says not due until 07 or 08 or whenever. They check for window tinting every time you go for inspection also, so yeah. They can sign it for you.
By the way, how dark is your tint? California is supposed to allow up to 70%, was yours less than that by much? Good luck with everything! |

that is so you dont have to pay the ticket if you get it removed and then go get inspected by the dmv and they signoff on it. if you keep the tint just pay the ticket

Although it may be , just pay the fine. Listen to ol' Socrates.
Just leave your tint, and don't go to that part of town during that part of the day. Cops generally have the same zones and shifts assigned. Drive on!

At least you didn't get a speeding ticket tacked onto the fix-it nonsense like me.
You also only have to strip off the front window tint, and tint places will probably remove the tint for free if you say you'll come back to them to get re-tinted.
