My Front Springs on my New 335i Have Pieces Coming Off!
I heard rattles while driving and discovered this on my left front spring!
In the torn rubber covering, I discovered this broken plastic ring I only have highway miles thus far with 1300 miles. Do you think the dealer will give me gried about not replacing it under warranty?

If they are the shipping spacers/blocks, they were supposed to be removed by the dealer when they were preping the car for delivery, I would take the pieces back to your dealer and start yelling! I THINK that they can do damage to your suspension if left in! Make them look over you car/suspension and make sure they fix anything that may have been damaged! Good luck!

I'm curious. Did the suspension "feel" a little wierd while driving? Did it seem rougher or unstable when taking turns at speed?

my gti had shipping spacers left in. drove on them for about 500 miles and encountered no problem. make sure it has done damage before you get all crazy about it to your dealership. i would think it would be harmless if they drive off the ship and drive it to the truck for delivery with the spacers on the vehicle

What exactly are these shipping spacers and where are they on the car? When bought mine a few weeks ago, it was just shipped to them, and I want to check to see if they removed them too.

I'm sure you'll find someone on there that will have experience with BH BMW and maybe can give you a contact referral as well.

I'm fairly familiar with strut/springs as I've installed coilovers and springs for different cars before. Although the torn boot doesn't really pose a problem, I'd take it in anyways to have them replaced it since it is their fault. However, I can not picture where on the strut or springs would these rings go? Does the ring sit around one of the coil of the spring? |

Yes, those are the shipping blocks indeed. These should of been removed when they did the PDI. It seems someone didnt follow the checklist. I would suggest you contact your Service manager as well as BMW USA about this....
Good luck!

I took the car to the dealer and they acknowledge that it should have been removed during PDI. I demanded that they check all the springs and told them that I would give them a bad review unless they make it up to me. The SA told me that the front spring will need to be replaced. I left the car there and will let you know how fast they get the car back to me. Thanks all for your advice.

why would they change the springs? the springs should not be damaged at all from this plastic spacers? Maybe they wanted to be cautious this time?
And make sure you mark your old springs somewhere, ao you know if they really changed them just kiddin

Geat info to know. Where are these spacers generally placed? High on the springs, hidden or plain view?
