Door Ding!!!!

so i'm parked at Wal Mart at 12am last night, and i'm just about to open the door, when i hear a loud "thud". I step out and theres the cart boy staring at me with no expression on his face. I stare at my door and i want to cry. theres a huge door ding on teh front drivers side door and a small scratch to my paint. He apologized and while trying to keep my temper, we reported it to the manager who then made a claim through Walmart corporate. Honestly i do feel bad for the cartboy who is already working a night shift tryin to make it by, but at the same time i'm still mad at the fact that my baby got it's first dent. So now i have ot get an estimate, and report it to walmart corporate. anybody else have anything like this happen? and does anyone else know how theyhandle claims like this? thanks

Sorry to hear, not a good way to start off the new year. At least they will pay for it. Good thing it wasnt done while you were in Wal-Mart.

Sorry to hear about it, nothing you can do I guess except get it fixed. It's funny how we as BMW enthusiasts are just ordinary people, i.e. you shop at Wal Mart. I'd do the same, just haven't taken the 335 there. I did take the 335 to BJ's Warehouse, parked far away, and a 350Z cabrio parked next to me. In that case I didn't get upset as I could tell he just wanted to park away as well, and plus his passenger side was closest to my driver's side. Since the driver was alone, in reality he was protecting my vehicle as my passenger side was against a barrier....

I'm sure he would have stopped what he was doing and gone straight to the manager to let him know what he had accidentally done....
Actually it's too bad there's a scratch. If there weren't a scratch, it'd be so much easier to have a good paintless dent guy fix it. The one I use here in L.A. is a miracle worker. Hope all goes well with it.

paintless dent removal? that's exactly what I need.. I have like 4 small dings on my passenger side door that I 'think' is from my neighbor parking next to me (height and location match) but I have no proof since I never 'saw' them do it. I was wondering if I could get some kind of foam that I can attach to the door when I park in my lot to prevent future dents. It's really annoying and all on the same door.

In CT there is a chain known as "Dent Wizard" google them; usually, they come out to you (its a guy in a truck with a bunch of odd medieval looking torture tools that they use to carefully bang out the dent through various access points (door hinge, panel removal, etc)

Works VERY well. I had a dent from an acorn on the top of the trunk of my E46, and couldnt tell where the work was done (and the top of a BMW trunk has no orangepeel and is very flat, so any imperfection in surface really shows)

haha i didnt spend my new years at wal mart. this happened on the night of the 29th-30th, so the lnight before. but yes, i have heard of the midieval dent removal people,a d used them for my previous car, an integra type r. they work wonders and brought my car back to new. I'm actually thinking about getting a quote for the whole door to be painted along with the ding fixed, and then just get the ding fixed and pick up a mod for my car? haha we'll see. for now, i just want the damn thing fixed.

that sucks man!

Lucky they are paying out for it though.

Here in Uk they would tell you to read the sign that they take no responsibility for damage and to jog on!

It is a car come on. It will get dings sooner or later, no matter how careful you are. If everytime your car gets a ding you need some work done on it, you will repeatedly do the same thing at least several times throughout your ownership period of this car.

Your attitude about car dings is way off base and IMHO sucks big time. It's this same "don't worry about the dents" attitude that causes them . It is some uncaring , "I don't give a shit about my own car and even less about yours" bastard that causes MOST of the door dings in the first place. My car is over 3 yrs old and has no dings(now I've jinxed myself) because I am ever diligent in not parking next to anyone. I did have 2 dings removed in the first year of ownership. It would have disturbed me to no end to just live with them.

+ 1

...I hate door dings/ deep scratches as well and you best believe those imperfections will be an issue when it's time to sell or trade in your car.

And they can drive the latest 400 HP Escalade thanks to leasing. I'm being 100% serious, not facetious. But given the choice, I'd rather work 65 hrs/wk and struggle to get a BMW. That's just me. If I need Wal Mart or Costco to stretch my $, so be it.

Door dings are the biggest peeve i have. Theres somethign about having just washed your car, and admiring yoru shiny beauty.. until you hit that angle where you notice that nasty dent on the side of yoru car. it's like when you see a hot girl.. and then you notice this huuge mole on her nose. haha i can't stand door dings.

In the US, no matter what any sign says trying to limit the liability of the land owner, they cannot disclaim negligence. If the sign says not responsible for all damages that only means damages outside the land owners control. This cart boy was negligent in controlling the carts. As an employee the store is responsible for the negligence of the cart boy.

There are some things that you cannot right off with a disclaimer/sign. Even though many places try to release themselves from all liabilty it doesnt stand in court. Many disclaimer signs are legally wrong in the wording. It stops the stupid people from making claims - unethical but it happens all the time.

We have Dent Wizard here as well. I have "Tim" on speed dial now after he pushed two nasty dings out of my truck. Brilliant stuff! As long as the paint is intact and he can somehow access it for behind, you will never know there was a dent there. Even better, Dent Wizard will fix every ding on a single panel - door, fender, hood, etc. - for only $99! Since most dings occur on your doors, they'll clean up all the dings for only $99. I still hate dings but I no longer fear them!!
